Default "All seals Go"

i have been driving my fathers suv since he passed. my little cousin need a car to go to school and back so i let him use it for a little bit until he could buy a car. i got the car back 2 weeks ago and started driving it this morning. i drove 30 miles north and 30 miles back and noticed each time there was smoke coming from under the car. so when i got off the highway i stopped at a Krispy cream parking lot and realized there were oil marks on my Cat. and the contact of the oil and heat caused it. i took it to the most trusted independant shop in Palm Beach county. they did a check and dold me there were 4 or 5 different seals messed up and would total $1,700. and about 10 minutes ago, my car would not go into reverse and i serviced the tranny 5k miles ago. what should i do? Repair them all? or should i sell the car? it has 137k miles and i didnt think all this would happen. the car also has some other minor problems but im worried about these 2 for now.

Check to make sure that your tranny fluid is not overfilled. The overfill valve may be the source of the leak.

I had a similar experince and what you should keep watch on is potential for fire. Your catalytic converter gets to super high temperatures and fire is possible.

As for fixing the seals, you're better off buying a rebuilt or low mileage tranny. I have one with 160K on it and I flushed it every year I had the car. Thats correct every year! and never driven it hard so its still really strong. This is now my spare for my daily driver GS as are many of the parts I removed from my highly modded GS.

Goodluck!
