June NASA Midwest, OH/IN Events at Grattan & MAM
Putnam this past weekend was hella fun. Total of more than 200 cars there (!!) and the weather was perfect.
For OH/IN region, Grattan in MI is up next on June 9 - 10 weekend.
It includes HPDE, Time Trial and Racing. Registration is open here:

I've never been to Grattan before so there're some studying to do before the event. Found this video on youtube that should help me learn the track:

Midwest region is having their June event at Mid-America Motorplex on June 30 - July 1 weekend. It's further out west right by the NE and IA border. I've been there once for the ITR Expo back in 2005. Very nice track and facility. Again, it includes HPDE, Time Trial and Racing. Registration is open here:

These are the videos from a guy who races his ITE Integra there (before it turned into a full race car):

Same rule applies that you may be able to register at the track depending on availability. But they will charge you a $50 additional fee.
And lastly, if your car is not ready, but you have the free time, you might want to consider their volunteer program and earn some free track time:

This past event at Putnam, they had more than 40 volunteers, which helped the event run so smoothly even with such large car count.

Here is the best lap that I clipped from the entire race session. The car in front is one of the 2 Si's that ran the 25hr enduro in CA. Very nicely prepped. It's in H1, but the driver missed a shift at the start so he fell back from the rest of the H1 pack.
Clicky - 20Mb
If you are interested in seeing the whole session (including the standing start), here is the link to Google Video:

The event at MAM is coming up. Just a bit more information for those who are going.
Seems like many people will be camping at the track. For those who camped there last year,
their advice is to bring ear plugs! There is a rail line about 1/2 - 3/4 mile from the track and the trains that pass by (quite frequently) blow their whistles for an intersection south of the track. Besides that, the track facility is nice, it has showers, little pond, gas pumps, etc.
There will be a Mad Brew huge motorhome there providing free beer all weekend http://www.madbrew.com/ , but only when the last session is done. Some of their stuff is strong. It can knock you out and you won't even hear the trains coming.

Just saw this on another forum. Headsup for those who are staying at hotels:
For folks staying at hotels: Watch out for the smash-and-grabbers. Last year, one sum***** broke the window out on my Eclipse, stole all our suitcases, track bags, helmets, a camera case, and was working on getting the data logger and computer when a hotel guest spotted him. He took off for the Nebraska border, only two miles away.
It seems that stealing from cars in parking lots is a big business in Council Bluffs (and Omaha) because the border is so close and city police can't pursue across the state line unless it's a felony. The local police are so inept, they couldn't catch anybody anyway, but the beckoning border begets buglaries.
Few hotels have well-lit parking lots and video surveillance. As I understand it, Motel 6 is the worst, and only the Settle Inn is relatively safe. We got hit in the Marriott.
So, a word to the wise: Don't leave anything valuable in a car, on a trailer or in a pickup bed. It would be best to drop the car and trailer at the track Friday night.
If you see anybody in Council Bluffs wearing either of my two favorite track shirts (Rehab is for Quitters and We Will Rock You/Cologne), please let me know. I'd like to have a word with him. I replaced Rehab, but I have to go back to Germany to replace the other one. Grrr...

There will be a party at MAM this Saturday night :

A word of caution---the Spring Bock (Bump Draft Bock) has a high Alcohol by Volume (ABV). It's kind of sneaky and kicks like a mule with a bad attitude.
Drink responsibly.
To join us for the festivities and drink some Mad Brew, you need only run a Mad Brew decal on your car/big wheel/trailer/dog/girl friend, etc. No sticker, no liquor. Decals available at the Mad Brew Racing trailer and must be run on your car BEFORE the Sat. night party.
Check out current drivers and their rides:
