On my rear view mirror pressing the power button on and off (green lit button on bottom right of mirror assembly) on my 23 GX appears to have no effect of the mirror. The reflected image does not change, I assume it should perhaps brighten or darken with button selection. The image does not change and always seems slightly dark regardless of power button being in on (green lit) or off position. Perhaps I don't understand how the mirror is supposed to work.

Anybody had a clear idea of what is supposed to happen to the rear view mirror reflected image when power button is in on versus off position?

One of the plastic pieces is loose, very loose, the rig is still under warranty (2023) but needs to go on a road trip on Monday. I'm going to pull the passenger side rail to inspect. Can't for the life of me find the torque for the anchor bolts that hold the rail to the roof.
thanks.

Hey everyone, Mod in Japan carries exhaust and exhaust-related options for the GX - 2nd Gen (2010-2023). Below is a quick buyer guide grouped around how most owners shop: daily-driver sound, aggressive sound, valved systems, midpipes/front pipes, headers, and premium materials.

Pricing note: Some brands restrict advertised pricing online. For our best available price, please click “Request Quote” on the product page and we’ll follow up with the best deal we can offer.

Sound level note: Volume ratings are general estimates. Final sound level depends on the full combination of parts. Axleback-only setups are usually more manageable. Adding midpipes, downpipes, headers, or catless components will increase volume.

Fitment note: Always confirm model year, engine, drivetrain, trim, F Sport package, wheelbase, emissions requirements, and bumper/exhaust tip fitment before ordering.

Quick GX - 2nd Gen (2010-2023) Exhaust Buying Guide

Axleback / Rear Section: Best first upgrade. Changes the rear muffler section and gives the vehicle more sound without replacing the full exhaust.

Catback: More complete system that typically includes more piping and a larger sound/appearance change than an axleback.

Midpipe / Front Pipe: Adds volume and changes tone. Resonated versions are smoother and better for daily driving. Non-resonated or catless versions are louder and more aggressive.

Headers / Exhaust Manifolds: Biggest sound and performance change, but also the most involved install. These may affect emissions compliance depending on your location.

Valved Exhaust: Best choice if you want quiet cruising and louder sound when opened.

Non-Valved Exhaust: Best choice if you want a simpler setup and consistent sound all the time.

Stainless Steel: Durable, strong value, and usually lower cost than titanium.

Titanium: Lighter weight, premium finish, and often a sharper, more exotic tone.

Quick Recommendations

Best daily SUV setup: MagnaFlow - MagnaFlow 05-09 Toyota 4Runner V8 4.7L / 17-21 Lexus GX460 Overland Series Cat-Back Exhaust
Best aggressive setup: Catback exhaust with larger piping and performance tone
Best durability-focused setup: MagnaFlow - MagnaFlow 05-09 Toyota 4Runner V8 4.7L / 17-21 Lexus GX460 Overland Series Cat-Back Exhaust
Best valved setup: Valved exhaust if available, or quote-based special order
Best titanium option: Titanium exhaust if available for this chassis
Best midpipe / front pipe upgrade: Resonated midpipe for smoother sound, non-resonated for more volume
Best maximum sound setup: Headers/downpipe plus catback, where emissions rules allow
Fitment note: Always confirm year, trim, engine, transmission, RWD/AWD/4WD, hybrid/non-hybrid status, differential type, and intended use before ordering. Drivetrain and transmission parts are highly fitment-sensitive.

Quick Drivetrain & Transmission Buying Guide

Clutch Kits: Best for manual-transmission cars that need more holding power, a replacement clutch, or a setup matched to engine upgrades.

Flywheels: Best for manual cars when refreshing the clutch system or improving engine response. Lightweight flywheels can make the car feel more responsive but may add drivability tradeoffs.

Limited Slip Differentials / LSD: Best for rear-wheel-drive performance builds that need better traction, more predictable rotation, and stronger corner-exit grip.

Differential Drop Kits: Best for lifted GX/LX/off-road platforms where front driveline angles need correction.

Shifters & Transmission Accessories: Best for improving manual shift feel or supporting a transmission refresh.
Service / Rebuild Parts: Best for older vehicles, high-mileage vehicles, off-road builds, and restoration projects where reliability is the priority.

Hey Team GX,

My '23 is currently around 30k miles. I decided at the 3 year mark to change brake, differentials, transfer case (yes I purchased Toyota 75W Unicorn Poop), coolant and do a transmission drain and fill. Still have to do the power steering fluid within the week (easy one).

As reported elsewhere, differential fluid was pretty grungy and the magnets were pretty gummed up as seen on some vids. Transfer case was honey coloured, coolant pretty normal looking, transmission was definitely not looking new and was a darker colour, so has some contamination. I was able to flush out 3.5L and put 4L back in and set the level with a scan tool.

Thinking to do full fluid change as above every 3 years but thinking to do a transmission drain and fill every spring. Thoughts on this? That way I'm introducing some fresh fluid on a regular basis. Anyone else do this? Once a year is not a big deal and pretty easy to do.

I have been stocking up gaskets and small parts for the inevitable fluid services, and well misplaced a couple of washers and gaskets for a powertrain service. Anyone have any good aftermarket experience they can recommend?

Missing:
9043024003 / Front Diff Drain Washer
90301-15004 / Fill plug O-ring

Also, is it common practice to replace the actual drain bolt/plug vs reuse?
I have a disturbing issue with my GX460. I drove it last night and smelled a really strong gas smell. When I got home I looked underneath and gas was pouring from around the fuel tank. I have a attached a picture.

I turned it on this morning to check it and as soon as I start the car, gas stars pouring from around the fuel tank area. Has anyone seen anything like this? Any idea what it could be?
Thank you

I’ve owned this vehicle for a week now (2018 GX460 Luxury with 35k miles.I didn’t notice the vibration/shake/shimmy until I did some extended highway driving. I paid close attention to the speedo and it starts at 62 and continues to upper 60 range, smoothes out at 70. I took the car to a local shop and they balanced the tires. That didn’t fix it. I took it to a different shop who replaced all the tires and insisted everything was fine. That didn’t fix it. I’m not sure what to do next.
Any suggestions? Should I bring it to a Lexus dealership?

Hi everyone, earlier today my wife took our 2017 GX shopping and went into a drive thru for food. While she was in line, she had dropped her phone into the footwell area and reached to grab it hitting the center diff lock with her arm in the process. She was in drive when it happened and tried to click it again to turn off the flashing diff light but she said it wouldn’t turn off. She got honked at to move forward and under pressure she said she drove slowly forward and heard 2 clunks/grinds and then one final loud clunk/grind before the diff light stopped flashing and turned off.

When she got home she had told me what had happened and I immediately got to the truck to figure out if anything was possibly damaged. Now I don’t have any loose/bumpy ground near me, but when I tried to activate the locking diff in neutral without moving anywhere I could hear it engage and disengage when I turned it off with the solid diff light in the gauge cluster, so that seemed fine I guess. Then I tried accelerating hard to see if I could hear any weird noises, I didn’t, even at freeway speeds. I tried listening for noise at low speeds but didn’t hear any. The car seemed to drive fine without issue. Is there anything else I can do to diagnose if anything got screwed without dumping the diff fluid checking for shavings?
