Hi Folks.
I have a very slow leak from what I think is from the upper oil pan, but I'm not 100% sure thats where its comming from.
Dosn't lose tthat much oil but of course makes a mess. Are there any other valves, vachume hoses, issues that if where plugged would cause the leak.
The PCV valve flows freely. I have replaced the valve cover gaskets two years ago and I just retorqued them. Don't see any oil around them at all.
The rear main seal is dry. The oil eventually ends up around the lower oil pan area and drips on the skid plate.
Thanks for any ideas out there.

Has anyone found a good reference for troubleshooting the center differential. I have tried the usual places Youtube and Google but most of them just focus on replacing the actuator. I already tried that and it didnt fix the blinking light/no engagement problem I am experiencing.
I have the FSM but I cannot find any organized step by step way to troubleshoot this system. Anyone who might have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

Hey guys, current ’04 SC430 and ’05 LS430 owner here. LOVE them both and I have been searching for a GX470 for some time now to complete my UZ-FE stable (also have an ’04 Tundra) I am looking at this one:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2007-lexus-gx470-38/

My question to this fine group of GX experts - is there any concern at 136k miles that there is no record of differentials, transfer case, or transmission fluids being changed? My LS has impeccable maintenance history, but my SC did not have transmission or differential changed when I bought last year with 124k. I changed all fluids immediately and have not had any issues. Just curious mainly with the transfer case since I am not familiar with it. Also, what is your guess as to where this auction will end up? Thanks for any and all information to help me make a smart bidding decision.

Hey everyone, Mod in Japan carries exhaust and exhaust-related options for the GX - 1st Gen (2003-2009). Below is a quick buyer guide grouped around how most owners shop: daily-driver sound, aggressive sound, valved systems, midpipes/front pipes, headers, and premium materials.

Pricing note: Some brands restrict advertised pricing online. For our best available price, please click “Request Quote” on the product page and we’ll follow up with the best deal we can offer.

Questions? Email us at sales@modinjapan.com and we’ll help you choose the right setup.

Sound level note: Volume ratings are general estimates. Final sound level depends on the full combination of parts. Axleback-only setups are usually more manageable. Adding midpipes, downpipes, headers, or catless components will increase volume.

Fitment note: Always confirm model year, engine, drivetrain, trim, F Sport package, wheelbase, emissions requirements, and bumper/exhaust tip fitment before ordering.

Quick GX - 1st Gen (2003-2009) Exhaust Buying Guide

Axleback / Rear Section: Best first upgrade. Changes the rear muffler section and gives the vehicle more sound without replacing the full exhaust.

Catback: More complete system that typically includes more piping and a larger sound/appearance change than an axleback.

Midpipe / Front Pipe: Adds volume and changes tone. Resonated versions are smoother and better for daily driving. Non-resonated or catless versions are louder and more aggressive.

Headers / Exhaust Manifolds: Biggest sound and performance change, but also the most involved install. These may affect emissions compliance depending on your location.

Valved Exhaust: Best choice if you want quiet cruising and louder sound when opened.

Non-Valved Exhaust: Best choice if you want a simpler setup and consistent sound all the time.

Stainless Steel: Durable, strong value, and usually lower cost than titanium.

Titanium: Lighter weight, premium finish, and often a sharper, more exotic tone.

Quick Recommendations

Best daily SUV setup: MagnaFlow Overland Series Cat-Back Exhaust

Best aggressive setup: Catback exhaust with larger piping and performance tone

Best durability-focused setup: MagnaFlow Overland Series Cat-Back Exhaust

Best valved setup: Valved exhaust if available, or quote-based special order

Best titanium option: Titanium exhaust if available for this chassis

Best midpipe / front pipe upgrade: Resonated midpipe for smoother sound, non-resonated for more volume

Best maximum sound setup: Headers/downpipe plus catback, where emissions rules allow

I may have caused this when I was trying to shift into 2nd and found it "difficult" to get down there. After working it several times, it became very easy to shift in there and I thought, "all done".

Now, it's evident something is amiss. Whenever I switch into 4th gear, it flops over to D and won't stay. If I hold it there, the transmission will stay in 4th gear, but when I let go, it swings over to Drive and will go into Overdrive when possible.

This is an issue since I'll be towing our bumper pull RV in June and I rarely pull in D - we'd have to be coasting down a long hill - it's usually in 4th gear or 3rd.

Does anyone in the collective have time with the mechanics of the gear shifter or linkage that may be causing this issue? I'd sure appreciate any leads.

Hello all!

Just recently bought a gx470 from my uncle for a very good price. It was serviced its whole life at the lexus dealership until 2024. The gx was rarely used since then. Its in pretty good shape inside and out, but I do hear a ticking sound coming from the engine bay. Ive owned a tacoma before and a 4runner and know about the tacoma tick. Do these motors all end up ticking eventually? The car drives fine, pulls strong and no codes when I scanned it. The tick does get faster when I accelerate and I read that it could be the exhaust manifold. My question is, do you guy think this gx still has alot of life left? All service is up to date, im in the process of changing all fluids, replacing front lower controls arms, and getting the rack and pinion replaced.
Also can anyone recommned a good mechanic in orange county ca with fair prices? Thanks in advanced and looking forward to hearing yalls opinion!

Hi All -

Had a strange thing happen today with my 2003 GX470 with 190K. Was picking up kids and turned off the vehicle. Went to turn it on and nothing. Completely dead. Popped the hood and checked the connections to the battery. Everything was fine. Tried to start it, nothing. Embarrassed that I had held up the carpool line, went to start it again. It started right up. On the way home, the power flickered for a minute but engine did not shut off. Got home, tried to lock it, nothing - no power. Went back out later and it started right. Checked codes and had an unrelated ABS code. Checked battery with power load - it tested good.

Any thoughts?

I'm not an audiophile, but was ready for a great sounding system and wanted to do it myself. So far, so awesome!

I recently finished replacing seven speakers and went through my factory amp to an LOC to a Rockford Fosgate Punch 10". I love the rumble and non-heartbeat-altering-thump. The Epicenter Micro overrides the factory amp's strict OEM data limits and filters, so there was no need to bypass.

I want all new speakers. Yes, all. I know that's not the most popular view, but it's what I want.
22 years is a bit old for 12 speakers. When mine all turned 21, they hit the bars and I haven't seen them since.

Seriously though, I have almost everything I need. I'm just stuck on after market tweeters.

Does anybody know of any that aren't $50 per sq mm - over the top expensive, but still quality?
