Hey yall looking for some help with this one, starter bearings broke replaced starter, intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and misc connectors and hoses that broke. Vehicle starts up and runs, idle is high tested all vacuum hoses with carb clean, and now vehicle is throwing a P0021 code. Wondering if anyone else has had or heard of this issue? Wondering if when the starter failed if it jumped a tooth, or should I just test the VVT solenoid and cam sensor?
Any feedback is much appreciated.

So I installed this bee r rev limiter and was messing with the launch control setting and after that, I got codes for vvti solenoids and cam position sensor. originally I thought it was rod knock but I can hear the noise through the intake manifold, aswell as the front timing cover/valve cover it’s to high up to be rod knock then I thought it was a bent valve but the car idles and runs fine just has that weird noise. So I took the valve cover off and checked the shim spec and all of them are in spec so I doubt there is a valve that’s bent or stuck open. So I’ve ruled out: rod knock, and bent valves so should I pull the timing over and check on my tensioners aswell as guides and belts and inspect my vvti gears? And advise or tips would be appreciated I’m going to look into it today more. Here is a video of the sound I’ve been hearing I’ve ran it for like 2 hours and the noise doesn’t get any louder or worse it just stays the same. Normally I’m good at diagnosing knocking noises if this sort but the 1uz is new to me and not a lot of info for the 1uz is widely shared or I experience issues that I’ve never heard people experience aswell

So I was reconnecting my battery after installing a new alternator and accidently created a short across the terminals (big spark!). Now the car is in limp mode and showing error codes P1125 Throttle control motor circuit, P1349 VVT System malfunction (bank 1), P1656 OCV circuit (bank 1).
I checked all the fuses and relays in the engine bay and kick panel, everything appears to be ok.
I "think" I need to replace the ECU but wanted to check with the smart people here first incase there were other ideas on what to check.
If I do change the ecu with another of the same part number, will I need to go to Lexus to have it or the key coded?

Thanks in advance,

Hey!
I'm thinking about doing the timing belt, water pump, and pretty much anything else preventative on my 98 GS400 while I have it apart. Does anyone have any advice for a 1UZ VVTI timing job?

I watched a few YouTube videos and have a general understanding, but I'm also going to find a service manual to follow the process.

On a separate note ive been hearing a bit of noise under acceleration that sounds like a lifter tick. Are the valve shims easy to adjust? The car has 78k miles and a great service history.

Ive done a bit of work to it so far, mainly lowering springs, a strut brace, a full suspension refresh, and a cat-back exhaust, so I'm pretty comfortable with tools, but not with engine work.

Thanks for any advice!

I have a 1999 GS300 with nakamichi head unit. The front right speaker goes in and out, the tape deck stopped working. And to add insult to injury, the radio isn't working either. I was thinking about replacing it with an aftermarket system.

That would require doing more than i really want. I found a head unit, and the amp behind the glove box in the salvage yard, they are holding it for me until tomorrow. I was hoping to it would be feasible.
The pioneer unit is from a 2002. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone. Before we start, this is the link for picture of timing and video while the car was running https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17iLFZp2Kb/
I need help diagnosing my 2000 Lexus GS300 (2JZ-GE VVT-i). I’ve been fighting this issue for over a month after doing a timing belt job.

What I replaced:

Timing belt

VVTi Cam Gear

Water pump

Spark plugs

Ignition coils

Coil connectors

OCV (Oil Control Valve)

Crankshaft position sensor

Current symptoms:

P0300, P0301, P0306

Belt tensioner shaking

Heavy shaking/misfire at idle

RPM drops

Ticking noise on startup

Car eventually stopped starting

I rechecked timing multiple times and the marks look almost perfect. Maybe off by 1-2 mm at most, if crank is at TDC.

Compression test results:

Cylinder 1 = 0 compression

Haven’t done a leak-down test yet

Important details:

Problem started AFTER timing belt job

Hydraulic tensioner mounting was giving me issues before

Had some cracked vacuum/breather hoses

No major knocking noise, only ticking

At this point I’m trying to figure out:

Could this still somehow be a VVT-i/timing issue?

Could valves be stuck open?

Or is a bent valve the most likely cause?

I’m honestly exhausted and just looking for experienced advice before deciding whether to pull the head, swap engines, or sell the car.

Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys I’m picking up a clean 98 GS400 this weekend. I’ve done the research but can’t find much, I understand that I need to pickup a non-nav ac unit from same generation that will be plug and play. I need the metra dash kit. I’ve seen that I’ll need to bypass the amp at the passenger kick board. What are the next steps. Appreciate all the help, wish someone would do a video on this. I do have a local shop near me that I can use I’m just trying to have the steps in case the shop automatically says it can’t be done.

thanks again! I’ve installed a CarPlay into my 06’ V8 4x4 4Runner but Crutchfield did the wiring harness so pretty simple.

Excited about this
