The following CV Boot Repair Using a HippoRed Split CV Boot (80mm): Boot dimensions: Small diameter hole = 25mm, Large diameter hole = 79mm, Total Length = 100mm. The HippoRed Split CV Boot cost $41 each on Amazon with free shipping.

Note: I initially purchased the Bailcast Universal Split CV boot but the tongue-and-groove design of the split boot joint had only 1mm overlap between the two sides, which is minimal surface area for the glue to hold both sides together, so I returned the boots and ordered the HippoRed Split CV Boot instead.

My Car: 2000 ES300 V6 with aftermarket axles from previous repair. The large diameter side had the round configuration rather than the tri-lobe configuration. Both inner boots (left and right) ripped 2 months ago so I covered both ripped boots with plastic bag, duct tape, and zip ties to protect CV joints until I acquired all necessary repair equipment. This 2-boot repair took 5 hours.

The Good: Boot is made of nice thick rubber and appears to be durable. The tongue-and-groove design of the split boot joint is much more robust than the usual $20 universal boot and when joint is pushed together, it will hold together on its own so it is not necessary to hold the joint together with fingers until the glue dries (assuming the clamp groove on the axle is 25mm in diameter or less). However, I used a zip-tie in the middle of the boot to loosely hold the boot together until it dried (see photo). The amount of the included glue (Loctite Super Attak Power Flex Gel, 3 grams) is more than enough to do the job. It is a rubberized formula equivalent to the Loctite Super Glue Ultra Gel Control sold in the USA and is made for joining flexible materials like rubber. The glue takes a long time to dry; still tacky 2 hours after application even though the label says it will dry to touch in 30 seconds.

The Not So Good: The included stainless steel clamps are the strap-type clamps rather than the Oetiker-style crimp clamps which are preferred for ease of use.

Pro-Tips:
(1) Wipe axle surface very thoroughly with cloth and alcohol prior to pushing boot over axle. Apply masking tape to cover split joint on boot (see photo) to protect boot joint from contamination. Remove tape just prior to using glue.

(2) Obtain a plastic 50cc marinade/flavor meat injector ($5) to inject grease into CV joint. The hole in the needle should be large enough for thick grease to flow through. If there are several holes in the needle, cover extra holes with tape so the only open hole is at the tip. Put grease into device and put needle tip into CV joint and force grease into joint. If old grease is dirty, it must be removed first using Brake Cleaner spray. However, if it appears clean (the old grease in both of my CV joints appeared to be clean), I prefer to leave the old clean grease in-place and add more grease using the new grease included in the HippoRed package. IMHO, it is a greater concern to have too little grease in the CV joint than to worry about any chemical 'reaction' between the 2 different greases.

(3) Prior to tightening the clamps, the end of the clamp with the 3 teeth should be slightly bent downward/inward toward the center of the circle to assure the teeth engage the holes easily.

(4) Manually tighten the clamps as much as possible BEFORE using the tool to crimp the clamps because crimping only tightens the clamp an extra 8mm which is not much. If the clamps are too loose prior to crimping, it will be too loose after crimping as well. First, tighten the clamp by hand as much as possible, then attempt to tighten a bit more using a needle-nose plier (grip the clamp with tip of plier at the rectangular-shaped corner of the clamp and pull hard).

(5) Obtain screw-type clamp tool (see photo - it is clone of Toyota tool used at the factory), a package of Oetiker style crimp clamps (it is nice to have extra clamps in case a clamp or two get mangled in the crimping process), and also plier-style crimp tool - this is because sometimes, the screw-style tool slips over the rectangular crimp area of the clamp when starting the crimping process so using the plier-style tool to start the crimp process first may be necessary. However, since the plier-style tool requires a superhuman amount of hand strength to finish crimping, use the screw-style tool to finish the crimp - this is much easier. This screw-type clamp tool requires much less strength because the screw can be tightened easily, once the crimp is started.

(6) Because the glue takes a long time to fully cure, wait 1-2 days before driving.

I was quoted $380 and $475 to repair/replace the bottom seat. I think this is to expensive. I've tried a cover from Ebay before and it wasn't an exact fit which ended up costing me more money to get modified. (driver seat)

Is there repair kit to fix this thing? I know about the patches but it's not visually appealing at all.
Quick ES - 1st to 6th Gen (1990-2018) Engine & Intake Buying Guide

Drop-in Air Filter: Best first upgrade for simple maintenance and mild airflow improvement while keeping the factory airbox.

Intake System / Intake Pipe: Best choice if you want more intake sound, improved airflow, and a cleaner engine bay look.

Headers / Manifolds: Best for owners chasing stronger sound and performance potential, but these are more involved installs and may affect emissions compliance.

Cooling Parts: Best for reliability, especially on older vehicles, track use, hot climates, or high-mileage builds.

Fuel and Ignition Parts: Best for maintenance, high-mileage refreshes, and supporting more serious engine builds.

Quick Recommendations

Best first upgrade: Drop-in filter or intake pipe
Best power/sound upgrade: Headers or exhaust manifold upgrade
Best maintenance refresh: Ignition coils, fuel injectors, or related service parts
Best overall advice: Match the part to your goal: maintenance, sound, airflow, cooling reliability, or power support.

Hey everyone, Mod in Japan carries exhaust and exhaust-related options for the ES - 1st to 6th Gen (1990-2018). Below is a quick buyer guide grouped around how most owners shop: daily-driver sound, aggressive sound, valved systems, midpipes/front pipes, headers, and premium materials.

Pricing note: Some brands restrict advertised pricing online. For our best available price, please click “Request Quote” on the product page and we’ll follow up with the best deal we can offer.

Questions? Email us at sales@modinjapan.com and we’ll help you choose the right setup.

Sound level note: Volume ratings are general estimates. Final sound level depends on the full combination of parts. Axleback-only setups are usually more manageable. Adding midpipes, downpipes, headers, or catless components will increase volume.

Fitment note: Always confirm model year, engine, drivetrain, trim, F Sport package, wheelbase, emissions requirements, and bumper/exhaust tip fitment before ordering.

Quick ES - 1st to 6th Gen (1990-2018) Exhaust Buying Guide

Axleback / Rear Section: Best first upgrade. Changes the rear muffler section and gives the vehicle more sound without replacing the full exhaust.

Catback: More complete system that typically includes more piping and a larger sound/appearance change than an axleback.

Midpipe / Front Pipe: Adds volume and changes tone. Resonated versions are smoother and better for daily driving. Non-resonated or catless versions are louder and more aggressive.

Headers / Exhaust Manifolds: Biggest sound and performance change, but also the most involved install. These may affect emissions compliance depending on your location.

Valved Exhaust: Best choice if you want quiet cruising and louder sound when opened.

Non-Valved Exhaust: Best choice if you want a simpler setup and consistent sound all the time.

Stainless Steel: Durable, strong value, and usually lower cost than titanium.

Titanium: Lighter weight, premium finish, and often a sharper, more exotic tone.

Quick Recommendations

Best daily driver: Axleback or touring catback with moderate volume

Best aggressive setup: Louder axleback, catback, or non-resonated setup

Best valved setup: Valved exhaust if available, or quote-based special order

Best titanium option: Titanium exhaust if available for this chassis

Best midpipe / front pipe upgrade: Resonated midpipe for smoother sound, non-resonated for more volume

Best maximum sound setup: MAHLE Original Lexus ES350 Exhaust Manifold Set, where emissions rules allow

Hello,

I wished to upgrade to an AGM battery, as I plan on upgrading my 2016 Lexus ES350 with the following:

1. Apple CarPlay + Android Auto upgrade kit (possible upgrade to larger Lexus infotainment screen - though not sure at the moment)
2. 3 channel dashcam (front, telephoto and cabin)
3. 4 camera Mobile DVR (with 360 view)
4. Illuminated door sills + trunk sill
5. Rear view mirror camera upgrade kit (possibly - depending on how well integrated it is)

The upgrades are to make my car a bit more modern, as the car itself has been great and extremely reliable.

I've seen that AGM batteries require more power from the alternator to fully charge, and have seen people using voltage boosters.

I found 2 voltage boosters:
2. Voltage Booster PRO - https://voltageboosterpro.com/product/og/

The first is made to Lexus/Toyota spec (and is a cable that replaces the OEM cable coming from the alternator), while the second is like a fuse tap that sits in your fuse box.

When I contacted the people at Voltage Booster, they stated that their voltage booster was not tested on the Lexus ES350.

Whereas the H113-L-2 list the ES350 as being compatible.

I would assume both should work, but was curious which voltage booster you would all recommend?

Also, is a voltage booster even necessary (as I've read that the 2016 Lexus ES350 doesn't output enough voltage to properly charge an AGM battery per the AGM battery spec).

With all the electronics I plan on adding, I'm pretty certain I need to go with an AGM battery.

Plus, I rarely drive my vehicle (sometimes only on weekends as I tend to work remotely).

The AGM battery would seem like a good buy given my use case, but am worried that either voltage booster could damage the alternator, electronics or something else.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,
Nelson

Hi. I have two key fobs for my 99 ES300. One of them is fine with a single click of the buttons. The other one requires that i press the button twice. I have to quickly double click and hold. Plus, I don't think that doing it a second time will unlock the other doors. I couldn't find anything remotely similar with a Google search, only that a single click will unlock and a second click will unlock the rest of the doors. Google doesn't seem to understand my issue. Help is appreciated.

Hello Lexus ES Enthusiasts,

I have a set of 15" five-spoke wheels for the 1999 ES 300 Coach Edition. If I understand correctly this design of wheel was only available on Coach Edition versions of the XV20 for the 1999 model year. I'm looking to sell them and I'm wondering what people think the value of them is and if there is interest.
As you can see, they are not near perfect condition, with a fair share of small scratches and scuffs evenly distributed evenly throughout the set of four, no curb rash/chunks missing though. You wouldn't notice from a distance ofc. They are perhaps good for their age.

They used to be fitted to our Pearl White 1992 XV10 with summer tires, where I think they looked really good:

First issue, I have the dreaded condensation in my passenger headlight, I recently got the “headlight malfunction warning-see dealer”, from what I see, it’s not completely out, it’s running dim & occasionally does flicker. My question is, do I need a whole entire headlight? Or is it something smaller I can do to fix myself, maybe just the bulb, etc. I am expecting to pay $2000 at the dealership given research (I want OEM & the job done right IF I have to go this route). See pics.

second issue, I have water in the left side of my trunk after every rain. I understand the possibilities of what it could be (sunroof, taillight gasket, weatherstripping etc). From your experience, what was your issue & solution?
The brown isn’t rust, it is just debris. Trying to prevent that issue though! for anyone who actually dealt with & fixed the issue, what was causing it for you? See pics as well.

I appreciate you all in advance!

Have a '09 ES that we got recently and the driver's door lower trim panel started coming off. I see the white clips that I think I've found on amazon that might work. However, I have a question about the black section at the end. It seems like that part might have been a part of the actual trim piece and has broken off. I can' seem to find any information to confirm that or not. Anyone know if that black piece is supposed to be attached to the trim piece and if it might be able to replaced, hopefully without replacing the whole trim. Worst case, I'm thinking about replacing the white clips and then using 3M double back tape on that black piece to hopefully hold it to the back of the trim.

What did I skip or what am I missing?

I recently did the rear VCG to deal with a modest leak. I used a stack of two washers to make certain the bolts did not bottom out when I torqued them. I then let the car sit for 24 hours and re-torqued them. I did not run the engine, I just let things sit. Not much change.

I am stuck with a tiny 1 drop per day leak coming off the middle bolt area of the short driver's side edge. It is really annoying on a concrete driveway with an active HOA.

Did I miss a spot for rtv? I went underneath and checked the bolts and nothing is loose.

Thanks in advance.
