Runs away from the Tesla. My favourite quote "I got that Tesla...absolutely dropping it" |
i am positively surprised that Model 3 brakes better than i4 M50, as everyone always complains about Tesla brakes. I guess it is a lot heavier vehicle.
That is also probably why M3P is faster 0-60 too. i4 M50 pulls better after that. |
Mildly surprising. Though I do remember that the Tesla was a lot like the Prius: you need to keep all the factory aero (especially the wheel covers) to keep the car performing at its best.

The i4 M50 seems like a good car especially considering its not from a dedicated platform. The range suffers a lot though...227 miles with 20 inch wheel which isn't great. If you option to 19 inch wheels, range goes to 270 miles...that 20 inch wheel must be heavy as hell. I think BMW loyalists will eat this up and its already sold out for months. Competition is good...at least now it gives Tesla incentive to use the new carbon sleeve motors on the Model 3 :D |
I like CarWow videos in general, but they do have a tendency to mess up the match ups a little from time to time by using modified cars against stock or by mismatching trims/options when doing the comparison videos. Looks a little like that happened here too.

ezz, good point about those mods slowing the m3p some, but hats off to bmw to at least getting a competitive vehicle to market. as you say, competition is good.

Actually, BMW i4 M50 has 225kmh top speed while Tesla Model 3 Performance has 261kmh top speed. Germans actually care about this! |

Yeah, this race smells fishy. Where did they find this slow Model 3 Performance? Qtr mile times are generally 11.5 to 11.7 seconds at about 115 MPH. 12 seconds? Please. That's closer to the Model 3 Long Range AWD.
Maybe the state of charge was low, the driver was a big boy or those mods killed the aero drag? |

If they are that close, its a drivers race on reaction times. Of course the new Hummer and Rivian are about the same speed...will be weird to get out gunned by a 9000 lb SUV :D I think this thing will outsell the M3 when supply = demand.

there will be small EVs with 1000hp like Plaid... they will be faster than current M3P, it is fine, lol.
