1) charging rates did not jump 70% overnight that is one example (unverified, no source provided)
2) electricity and charging rates in Canada are not the same across the entire country
3) that's a good advertisement to buy Tesla

Did you know Telsa charges an idling fee of $.50 to $1 per minute if you don’t move your car when finished?

Charging at home is where most of the savings are. That's where you get the lowest rate. When we fill up our Sienna locally it's $4 a gallon. When we travel to SoCal it's as much as $6 a gallon on the hwy heading there

Did you know this is not the complete picture?

If that's true and electricity rates jumped 70 percent, I would pack up my bags and say sayonara baby!

Yep, that would also be another reason to buy a Tesla

Hardly anyone is paying anywhere near that, it's called an anomaly.

I can't get over how challenging companies besides Tesla are finding building out a charging network. It can't be that hard.

Now I'll debunk another absurd claim, regulations always make prices go up. Where I live, regulations capped electricity and gas prices which helped a lot of people especially during the height of the plague. Regulations in general stop gouging in many, many cases. They also stop monopolistic practices.

Didn’t think about how much gas is in other parts of the country. Our 93 octane today was $3.65 by me so if it’s still $6 a gallon in CA the savings are much more where you live compared to where I live.

BTW the Model Y I had today had white interior and 42k miles and the seats look brand new. The seats in my car looks much more worn/wrinkly in comparison with half the miles and my interior is black. I was amazed by that and how comfortable they were.

CR says this about EVs
The cost of the electricity to charge an EV is almost always hundreds of dollars less per year than the fuel expense for a similar gas-powered vehicle
They also say this:
A 2020 CR study found that EVs cut repair and maintenance costs by 50 percent over similar gas cars
It's coming very difficult to justify an ICE car based on running costs. If you must have a petrol engine for various reasons that's a difference discussion.

It's about $4 at our local Costco, but when traveling between SF and LA it can past $6 a gallon.

I just saw my friends Model Y today, I think that's what I'm going to buy. It has a bit more room than the Model 3, which is BTW pretty roomy

In my case, owning two EV'S over the last two years has been cheaper than ICE, especially when it comes to charging costs vs gasoline fill up's

until the power companies figure out how to charge nearly the same or more for electricity at home used for charging cars.

there won't be any 'savings' in the long term.

anecdote - this weekend I've been on St Simon's Island Georgia. there's a LOT of money here. there's also a lot of people who stay here during the winter months (snow birds). I was here visiting some relatives who stay here in winter months.

while I usually see teslas on the road fairly often where I live and other places, I think I've seen ONE the whole time I've been here. not sure the reason, but it was interesting.

come to think of it, I've also not seen ANY roof top solar on all the beautiful homes here while going on long walks through neighborhoods.

With the IRA investment and eventually competition among the different fast charging providers I'm confident pricing will stabilize. Currently 80 percent (or some number close to this) mainly charge at home. Mass EV adoption is still a ways off, so there is a few years to get pricing in order

Superchargers, especially at busy shopping malls, are not parking spaces.
