Hyundai ev's now have Tesla supercharger access

  • Hyundai EVs gained access to the Tesla Supercharger network on Tuesday, the automaker announced.
  • Hyundai says customers who bought or leased their EV by January 31 can get the adapter required for using Tesla stations for free.
  • The automaker says it will make adapters available for purchase at a later date.

We had an Ionic5 charging next to us on Sunday. There was also an F-150 Lightning on the other side. We've only used super chargers about 5 times in the past almost 2 years. This was the first time any other brand was charging with us.

If this was just approved, how was the Ionic charging with us before the 25th?

I still haven't seen a non Tesla at Tesla superchargers. Hopefully that changes. Although I'm returning the Ioniq in the next few months, I'm still going to get my free CCS adapter :D

I haven't had to use the Superchargers much, but when I have I've only been the only non-Tesla at that location. Charging has always been flawless. The Ford-provided adapter is very high quality and was made by Tesla. Ford has now added Lectron as another "OEM" for the adapters. Everyone entitled to a free one now has one, and they are only available for purchase now.

Great! You'll have to try it out and let us know how it works

My daughter can use it for her Bolt. It would come in handy if she ever decided to take it on a trip instead of borrowing my Tesla :)

plenty of third party options, you'll just have to crack open that wallet and watch washington or franklin blink in the sunlight. :D

Why not? Here are the terms:

Drivers of the Kona Electric, Ioniq 6, pre-2025 Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N and original Ioniq hatchback can plug into Superchargers as of Tuesday—once they get their NACS-to-CCS adapter first. Hyundai says customers who bought or leased their CCS-equipped electric model on or before Jan. 31 qualify to receive an automaker-authorized adapter free of charge. So, starting the week of April 1, look out for an email with instructions on how to redeem your free adapter.

2.5+ years ago is clearly before Jan 31, 2025, and the Ioniq hatchback is explicitly included. So unless his return date was this week (and thus he wouldn't still have the car on April 1), he should be eligible.
