as I'd read elsewhere, nowhere near as fast as ea (partly Tesla partly Hyundai) but handy to have.

For comparison KW/h speed compared to an EA charger recently. Getting faster each time I go as the weather gets warmer.

At 60 percent SoC, none of Tesla's even get close to that. Maybe a little over 100 kW if the battery is properly warmed

anyway, wasn't quite done there when i hit submit...

once there, i plugged the adapter onto the nacs cable end, then i think i plugged it into the car, then selected start charging on the app, and touched the charger # (2D). i heard the car say 'starting charging' or something, but it stopped charging a few seconds later. no idea why.

app had instructions on screen about using the charger and adapter, without really being clear what order, so i started over.
this time i touched start charging on app first, and selected charger. it said plug nacs cable end into adapter, then cable/adapter into car.

this time i felt a more positive click on the nacs going into the adapter so maybe that was an issue before. then i pushed the adapter into the car's ccs port. it doesn't seem to click in place but maybe it was too subtle to detect. anyway, almost right away the app showed initializing charging, and while the app said it might take a minute to start, it seemed to only take a few seconds and was off and charging.

like anything, it just takes getting used to.

the BIGGEST hassle though is that i really can only use that separate charge bay from the rest and park in the parking spot NEXT to that so the passenger side port is near the charger. actually thinking about it now, maybe it would work if i was backed into the actual charger parking spot... will try another time. and yes i know v4 chargers have longer cables.

anyway, glad i finally got it to work and good to know it works. since it cost me $5.37 for a little under 9% charging (vs. 58% for that amount at home!), i will only use this if i have to on trips. i will still use free EA if i can.

V2 charger :thumbdn:

As a non EV owner, I know that’s not a good speed. I’ve seen those speeds in a rental then also seen it cut in half when someone decided to not skip a spot and parked right next to me.

Do you take your LC on trips? Keeping the miles down on it? 5 min or less would’ve netted you 20 gallons ⛽️

What would you say is the ratio of EA to SC stations along the places you frequent?

Allen K Apr 12, 2025 04:02 AM

That’s at least a v3 as non-Teslas can’t charge on V2s. Slower charge rate was likely related to the state of charge

not sure if you're mixing v2 and level 2 but this was neither and it wasn't thumbs down as almost 100kw is nothing to sneeze at and 9x what I get at home with level 2.

stop trolling this isn't about gas cars.

i only use a public charger on trips and only do those in ev about 3 or 4 times a year. There's probably 3x sc (v3 or 4) to ea.

Isn’t V2 charging speed only around 150kwh but you typically won’t see that 150kwh while charging so 90ish is about normal? Ideally you want to charge at a 250kwh V3 charging station which will taper off to mid 100s charging speed. Not sure what speeds you see at EA stations. Sorry about my limited knowledge. Just from the conversations I’ve had with my friend who owns 2 Teslas.

Not trolling sir. Thought it was a fair question. You never post about roadtrips in your LC:dunno: guess I should’ve posed the question in car chat. :dunno:

Negative. V2 is 75kW charging. V3 is 150 kW as well as 250kW, except 150 kW chargers share, while 250 kW chargers don't. V4 is 300 kW and above. I'm only taking Tesla super chargers

Ok my bad. I know he tries to avoid 150kw chargers if possible. Wonder what speeds are at Bucees because he will try to skip the one before and shoot for Bucees. I know on one instance it told him to stay under 75mph for like 140 or so miles until he got to Bucees. This was in his M3LR.

On trips I try to hit only 250kW and above, but sometimes you don't have a choice on heavy travel days, like major holidays

every one i've visited (which isn't many, about 5 or 6) has had 350kW charging but i think the highest i've seen there was about 250kW.

because i don't take road trips in the lc. well i've done a couple, and it was ok, but...

exactly.

no idea where you got that from unless you're referring to your friend with teslas? obviously i'll go with faster charging if available and i'll also go with EA if possible because it's free for now.

this thread wasn't about the power level though, it was simply about my experience trying to use a tesla charger with my hyundai.

bitkahuna Apr 13, 2025 01:33 PM

so it's been a while since i looked at the 'a better route planner' app on my phone, plus when i did look recently it doesn't work on carplay unless you pay to subscribe to it (here we go, another subscription).

subscription is $4.99/mo. (or $49/yr i believe). since i didn't know much about it as a subscriber, i just subscribed for a month to see what it can do.

maybe it's had the ability for a while but the first thing it prompted for is connecting to the hyundai account so it has live data of the battery charge level, which is huge for its planning ability. that worked easily and it showed me my car's current charge level.

i also told it i can charge at tesla now in addition to all CCS and i prioritized EA over tesla because for me right now EA is free, and it's faster.

i then did a route plan to where i usually go a few times a year in south florida. it quickly presented a plan with two charge stops, one EA and one tesla!

pretty cool... another step to making ev travel easy.

Live data is one of the bigger benefits of ABRP Premium, whether via an OBDII Bluetooth LE dongle or by connecting via your car app etc. Otherwise it's guessing using averages.

Full premium features here: https://abetterrouteplanner.com/premium/

I don't think it's come to Hyundai yet, but Apple is rolling out EV routing via Maps, it is active on mine and Maps is able to leverage and factor-in live SoC and efficiency data directly from the vehicle to routing and en-route charging.

bitkahuna Apr 15, 2025 04:23 PM

so now i have the hefty and large a2z nacs adapter in its nice case, i wondered where i should put it. the 'frunk' on the ioniq 5 feels big enough to hold a thin crust pizza and that's it. 🤣

but there's a deeper part at the front of it that i thought should be able to hold the a2z adapter and case.

but... i already had a level 1 charging cable in there (just in case!) and also the "v2l" adapter which lets you use the car as a power SOURCE to power/recharge other things.

anyway it did all fit!

pleased to report abrp premium connects to the car app just fine and tracks live SoC.. :dance2:

interesting... since i just did an OTA update, i'll see if that did anything related to this. not that it seems that critical to me, because if abrp (which is accessible through carplay anyway) does a nice job with its maps then i don't think i care about apple maps for trips.
