12.4 FSD is in early beta and 12.5 should be out in 2 months - thats the one that has new highway stack using neural engine, todays 12.3 and 12.4 have old highway driving stack which is why you still have same problems with ghost braking, etc.

From what I've gathered, cameras can have a tough time in bad weather compared to LiDAR. Things like fog, rain, or bright sunlight can mess with how well they see the world around them. Tesla's always trying to make their algorithms better to deal with these problems, but there are still some challenges because of how cameras work.

I wish there was bad weather here to test that, but now it's almost summer so no bad weather until December. One thing I can say though, the improvements they made to vision is mind blowing. Just a year ago it was pretty primitive, now I can actually drive just looking at the screen alone (wouldn't recommend it :))

Have you tried it at night? I haven't with v12, but in older versions it struggled compared to daytime.

I'm getting 2024.14.6 right now. Hopefully that gives me the FSD trial.

So, a few days with it, and my best comparison is to riding with a new driver. 99% of the time it was fine, but it makes mistakes that could be disastrous. Biggest mistakes were 2 left turns across traffic that it didn't figure out something was coming and I had to stop it. Minor complaints about accelerating too fast to the 25 mph speed limit in my neighborhood and brake too hard too late. Less aggressive settings might fix that. I'll have to test the other settings.
If you take it for what it is, I think it is very good and will get better, but still not sure I'm in for $99 a month. $50 would probably get me, but that's the max. A per use rate would be ideal, since this won't be my daily driver and not something I'm going to travel long distances in. |
A few other things I noticed.
Not very good avoiding potholes Doesn't slow down enough for railroad tracks in some cases. AI and GPS should be able to figure this out like a human does. Over-reacts to someone pulling out in front of you in the distance. Hits the brakes too hard. When pulling onto a road, it is slow to get into the correct position for the camera to see if something is coming or not A few times it has decided to turn left but saw a car coming and changed it's mind, but didn't get back into my lane completely. Left me an inch or two in the other lane, forcing the oncoming car to move over a little bit. Not good. |

I've used FSD12 more times than I have used FSD in total since owning the car the last 18 months (my car came with FSD, so I am not on a trial or monthly setup). For me, FSD12 has been really, really solid in my area. I've used it going to/from dinner on roads where the speeds range from 35-50 mph and I've used it on I-95 and the FL turnpike at 70mph speed limit (going roughly 80) and letting it get me on and off exits. It is WAY more "natural" feeling in how it drives than any prior version of the software I had ever used.
Bob04, as you have encountered some scenarios, are you providing the voice feedback to help the model learn? |
