So we don't have to move the cars around for charging, I went ahead and bought a 20 ft NACS extension cable:

nice but note it says 50A so it should never be used at a supercharger!

Haha of course. This is 1000 percent for home use. It wouldn't work at a supercharger, as it would detect a cable problem. Tesla supercharger cables are liquid cooled (EA same)

Took my daughters Chevy Bolt today to pickup our dog from the vet, and I hate to sound like a broken record, but this car is amazing the way it drives. It drives way better than any four cylinder sub/compact vehicle in it's class. If you need a comfortable, inexpensive commuter this fits the bill. The controls are all laid out, easy to reach and read

Only concern I have is that it uses the pouch style battery modules, and those are known to swell. I'm guessing that's why it has three different coolant tanks. But with a 120k mile drivetrain warranty, I'll just let GM worry about it

is the center screen really that dirty or is the factory screen protector still on it? :D

It's really that dirty. My daughter cleans her car annually 😞

20 ft NACS extension cable arrived. And man, is it thick

Question to electrical guys...why is the Tesla 25 ft charging cable so thin, and this extension cable so thick?

Do you have the Gen 3 wall connector, which supports charging at 48A? If so, I would expect it to have the same 8AWG wiring as the extension reportedly uses (according to one of the amazon reviews at least) and similar insulation. If your wall connector is one of the older ones then it could potentially be using 10AWG with equivalent insulation, or 8AWG with less insulation.

One other factor is that resistance increases with distance, and that can generate heat. Adding more insulation can counteract this to a degree.

Alternative possibility is that the review I read is wrong, and the extension is actually 6AWG. That might make sense as an additional safety factor. Despite the fact that they have lots of warnings that the cable is NOT to be used with a supercharger, they have to know that will happen. Reducing the frequency of lawsuits due to fires would save them money, even if they would ultimately win most or all of them.

It's the newest gen Tesla Universal charger that supports 48A

Good news, Hyundai is getting plug and charge. Bad news you have to go to dealer to get the update.

swajames Apr 24, 2025 09:39 AM

Plug and Charge is great but do be careful if you take advantage of any network memberships to get discount rates they do not necessarily work with P&C and you will pay the full non-member rate if you pay via P&C. Sometimes the only way to get member rates will be to initiate the charge via the networks' own apps. Ford P&C initially DID let you get Pass Plus rates at EA but that capability got pulled and has never come back.

Appears to be the same on Hyundai P&C - no savings

https://owners.hyundaiusa.com/us/en/...u-pnc-ota-faqs

"Q: Is there any savings from using Plug & Charge?
A: Not at this time; however, Hyundai is constantly looking for ways to save its valued customers money on charging."

it will all shake out over time...

in even bigger news... walmart's planning to get into ev charging big time!

I say bring it on!

Huge game changer. Here's a former Sam's Club right near work. They could put in hundreds of chargers.
