Energy payback for solar is less than 3 years. I loath wind farms. Burning fossil fuel dwarfs pollution from making solar panels.

even with a high msrp they lose tons of money.

But improving they went from losing $50K+ to "only" losing $15K per vehicle.

Sounds about right since I just ordered mine today, perfect timing:

Ugh! Can you wait?

I see at least 2-3 Rivians outside of all of that on the roads every day.

It is a compelling product, I totally agree, and I'm sad it's in this position. But it's expensive, and still losing money. And yes I do see a lot of them where I live, but "a lot them" isn't enough. Most people don't want to spend $80 or $90k, especially if it's an EV. Everyone I know that has one is wealthy and can afford one, unfortunately most people just can't afford them, or they are reluctant because it's an expensive EV

I can but I kind of don’t want to. I was an early adopter and my car sucked so who knows if this is a big refresh or not. If it is then (1) it could have problems since it is so new and (2) maybe they jack the price up again for early adopters.

I’ll think about waiting this week a little but I doubt I will because who knows when it will come out.

I have to say, impeccable timing, literally the same day I ordered. Maybe I will play the lottery this week.

Oh man. What would it cost you to cancel? Would it be just the $250 order fee?

You'll be fine. The 2025 you ordered is a refresh, with incremental updates. I would only wait if it was like the Model 3 and Y refreshes, which I doubt

So he doesn't lose the $250, he could reject the car a few times and he will be put back in the queue, but no one knows when this so called refresh is coming out. Could be tomorrow, could be in 6 months

You realize the much cheaper smaller model is just about to launch right? Remember Tesla started with the expensive Model S.

Yeah I could see that.

The MS is ripe for a big revision…I might wait to at least see it.

LeX2K Feb 23, 2025 06:39 PM

I'm still shocked there is a refresh on any level. Maybe it will have the SpaceX pack since S will be sharing a platform with the new Roadster. Perfect for the person that wants a car capable of killing you with acceleration.

SW17LS Feb 23, 2025 06:41 PM

Tesla would be turning away a lot of customers if they ditched the S and X, and it would position them as just a largely mainstream company.

The cheaper model isn't until 2026, which was one of their mistakes, announcing it two years before it's out, putting a lot of potential buyers on the fence waiting. As far as the Model S, it was a different time. It was a niche product, no one had anything like it, and it was mostly bought by early adopters and wealthy tech geeks. Today it's a low volume vehicle that I actually am surprised they are coming out with a refresh for.

But look, I want Rivian to succeed. A year from now I'll be super happy if you tell me "I told you so"
