Lexus Developing Fake Manual Transmission for EVs
85 CRX manual
86 MR2 manual
88 Corolla SR5 manual
89 CRX manual
01 Saturn SL2 manual
01 Chevy Silverado manual
06 Scion tC manual
11 Tacoma manual
If any of my current cars were available with a manual, I would go for it. Considering buying a GR86 for the manual.
I’ve had many manuals.

Most are like you, if the brand makes it cool if not auto it is and over time they just stop driving stick. I personally am too type A to want a stick car in the first place but I'm coming around to them for the sake of enjoyment, it's hard to come to terms with an inferior system though. I'll be forced to own one anyway for long term cars so I need to get really good at using them now
The reality is when you need a certain type of car you don’t have the luxury of blacklisting any car without a manual. I don’t want a manual, but even if I did I need a sedan and a multipurpose vehicle and there are no options for those types of cars with manuals.
Exactly. Thank you. I'm a huge manual fan and will have one again, likely soon, but the options are severely limited and getting more so by the day. I think I'll go with a BRZ/GR86, but have a few things to get lined up first.
Used to work with a guy who was obsessively "must be a manual" and who actively looked down on anything or anyone without a manual transmission. Had the pleasure of driving with him once, and it quickly became apparent it was all show and no go. He had absolutely had no idea how to drive a manual. Hopped all over the place, had no idea how to rev match, and generally ham fisted the drive from start to finish. Absolutely glorious.
It feels like theres no rhyme or reason to why we should have an EV with a manual.
The question is, is this even feasible from an engineering point of view. How exactly do you implement a clutch in a system like that, and if you can, how much of a detriment to performance, efficiency and cost is it?

and there are ev's already with more than 1 gear i believe, like a taycan. but ev's also have such tremendous torque that the clutch would have to be uber stout and you'd WASTE tons of energy manually shifting gears, etc.
it is an epically stupid idea.
it is not a gearbox... there are gearboxes for EVs, and they are insanely expensive and complicated due to the torque they have to withstand.
Whats the purpose of a gearbox for an EV? As I understand it, EV motors have such a broad powerband, it eliminated the need for a gearbox.
I get that this fake one that Toyota is developing serves no function.
