Got our Model 3 Mid Range in Dec 2018. Got the solar earlier, in March. My electric bill is $9 per month. Yup. I got the car more for my wife; I had had surgery at the time and could not test drive it. I will never do a 0-60 run or a qtr mile run, but I have come to love the freeway merging and lane changing acceleration. Real world driving stuff. Starting out every day with a full tank, when regular gas can be $5 per gallon, is the only way to fly. When we got the car, and even a year ago, I would have said much of this talk was silly, but now I doubt I will ever buy a new ICE vehicle again. These cars are not for everyone, but if an EV fits your use case, give it a strong consideration. That's my 2 cents.

That’s a great way to express it. An EV does fit my driving use case but not the financial one. In my opinion, the government’s role would be more constructive toward EV adoption if they spent some time showing the practicality and the benefits rather than presenting a deadline as edict.

Hi link13,
That's ok and I might reply about this in a new thread.
At this time do you have any friends or family who drives an EV?
I only know one person so far and have made EV friends on here too.
//
FYI, for anyone following along.
I've found EV owners here in Club Lexus to be very friendly.
I've sent PM's to a few of them on here over the last year and say hi and introduce myself, always with a kind reply back.

My best bud from college had a 2014 Tesla S and that was the first EV I ever rode in. I know he is replacing it. I think he is going Rivian. Allen K on CL is a friend and one of the OG CLers who I met in person when he used to be in SoCal. My friend Val is the first friend I know who bought a used EV and she has a Tesla 3. She said she will never go back to ICE. We were just in San Diego over the weekend and she was with her BF, who is one of my earliest friends in the German club here. They took his gas burner. She charges the 3 at home with an L2 Tesla wall, panel, or whatever they call it.
The drivers and owners I’ve met are chill. They are not what I would call evangelists. They have the “do what works for you and if EVs are it, cool” mentality. For the financial side, I bought a 2019 Civic Sport Touring when my lease on it ended. According to KBB, it’s worth 12K more as a trade in than what I paid to buy it out.
My personal opinion is that politicians should crow less about arbitrary deadlines and instead present EVs as an appealing option. The CA governor made the 2035 EV declaration and within 7 or 8 days, told people not to charge their EVs because the grid can’t handle it.
The vehicle offerings and cultural acceptance of EVs are growing faster than the infrastructure is being improved. There’s a lot of naivety about where electricity comes from. I work in the industry and to call my employer Big Oil is no stretch. Our CEO got booed by protesters at his first public address. We do use fossil fuels to make electricity at some of our charge stations. We have to. There are going to be people who think that’s evil. I would gently tell them they should be very glad that at least 2 Big Oil companies are committed to zero emissions and are investing in it.
Some think the government should do it. Seems like there’s a comprehension problem because the government investing means it needs to be funded by taxpayers.
Just got my Mod Y VIN assigned. Should be ready between 7/8 and 7/15. That's quick, can't wait!
Of course!
Congrats Mike728.
This thread is for anyone who:
1) Owns an EV
2) Knows someone who has an EV here on CL or in the real world.
3) Is a friend to their fellow EV man or woman in general.
Pick one or all 3 if ya'll want.
Cheers! 😃
