2023 Chevy Bolt EUV for my daughter
Like all chargers, it needs a power source. The one that came with my Polestar is more like cable, and can't be wall mounted, which is why I bought a separate external charger (pictured in the previous post). The Bolts charger is similar to the polestars, but can be wall mounted, and I suspect the polestars charging cable wouldn't work with non Polestar EV'S, as it probably has specific firmware built into the transformer
The other option is to buy a charging station and have it wired directly into a 240v circuit. This is the better option because these are first self contained, come with cable management, usually have higher amperage (mine is 50 amp), weatherproof, and lastly I can remotely access the charging station through an app to control it, look at history etc.
Hopefully that clarifies things for you
Now that I was able to spend some time Saturday with my daughters Bolt, I can give a better review of it. First I will talk about it's pros and cons:
Pros:
An inexpensive ecobox to own and drive
Good build quality, decent materials
Good interior room, comfortable seats
Flat flooring allows stretching of legs
Intuitive controls, easy to use layout
Responsive infotainment system, easy to learn and use with well laid out apps
Pairs easily with smart phone, has both Android Auto and AppleCar Play
Has both physical controls as well as controls built into the infotainment system
Extremely smooth drivetrain at any speed, no NVH (no droning 4 cylinder or rubbery CVT)
Decent instant torque and power when you need it
The most efficient hybrid doesn't come close. Super efficient, 125 MPG equivalent
Good range at 247 miles, we should know soon what "real world" range is
GM Onstar
Full safety suite
8 year/100K mile Battery, Drivetrain warranty
Cons:
Small trunk, although if you put the rear seats down it creates a lot of room
Supports only up to 55 kW DC fast charging
Doesn't seem to have a "creep mode" setting
Came with Michelin self sealing tires (SelfSeal Technology) which makes them expensive to replace, side damage like curb rashing or side impact could mean they would need replacing
Not a Tesla
Ok, the last one doesn't count! But as you can see, this car is a bargain in today's market. For those in the market looking for a basic commuter, (or a starter EV), this would be the one. Even if you remove the EV credits from the equation, the base LT model is a bargain at $32K. It's more efficient and drives better than a Corolla, a Civic, Accord, and a Camry. It doesn't have a dronny anemic lackluster engine, or a rubbery CVT that feels like an overstretched rubber band. It's quiet at 10 mph, and it's quiet at 80 mph. Because it's super efficient, my daughter will only have to charge it once a week, although she can choose to have a "full tank" every night if she chooses to.
Anyway, kudos to GM for building this car. I do see a lot of them on the road, so they are pretty popular here. My daughter so far absolutely loves it. I hope it gives her many years of safe travels

We have too many cars already (4) parked in our backyard. I would have to maintain insurance on it, continue to maintain it, and it would just sit anyway. It's served its purpose for us, time for it to move on to someone else. Its already sold now

I wouldn't even had insured it or put any money into it. It would be used strictly in very bad weather to get around or emergency. Who bought it?
For me, all day. Can't say the same for others.
Insurance doesn't protect me. Good driving does.
And if I hit someone, I'll pay out of pocket. Done deal.
It is illegal to drive without insurance but this is a special case scenario where its ok to drive without it. The scenario being that the car isn't used much.
