Question Install XM in 2009 Lexus ES-350

I just bought a 2009 Lexus; I traded my 2006 Chrysler 300-C with Sirius for the Lexus thinking I could just switch service from the Chrysler to the Lexus.
I understand that this is not possible since the Lexus is set up for XM. I called XM thinking I could just subscribe, but was told that I have to have some kind of interface or controller installed. I called Lexus and they said it would cost me $700.00 to have this installed. Now, this is what I don't get...If the car is set up for XM, what do I have to install??? I am not the least bit literate in electronics, and need to know what I have to do in order to get XM Radio playing in my car. Any help out there?? Someone said to go to Best Buy, but I don't even know what to ask for. Who besides Lexus can install what is needed. Thanks for anyy help out there. I am brand new to this forum.

XM is an installed option and unless it was in the car from new you do not have the electronics package to receive XM. Do you have the shark fin antenna mounted on your roof ? If you don't all of this needs to be installed. That's most likely why it will cost $700 from Lexus. You can also buy the aftermarket XM adapter but I do not believe it will use the Lexus screen to control it.

Default Confused and disappointed in Lexus

This Lexus does not have the Nav Package, but it is supposed to have some componets of XM installed, according to the Lexus dealer. They said I need an interface/ controller or something like that. None of this makes alot of sense to me. When I had my Chrysler Sirius was already installed, and all I had to do was call Sirius. I can't understand why a car mfg as big as Lexus, would have such a Mickey Mouse way of having to get Satellite service.

Sent an email. This is not something I would want to do myself, so if they have what is required, I will have to find someone to install.

This is what I just sent to the Lexus contact.

I just bought a 2009 Lexus ES-350 that is supposed to SAT ready. No navigation.
Are these all I need to get connected to XM?

Thanks,

Default You need one more part

In addition to the tuner, antenna and bracket, you also need a fit kit. The fit kit has the wiring harness to connect the tuner to you amp and radio controls.

Nobody seems to have the es350 fit kit (p/n 86100-0W190) in stock. I used an IS350 fit kit (p/n 86100-0W220), but I had to extend the harness by splicing a 24" piece of cable into the harness.

If all of the parts are available, it's a 1 hour project in the trunk. No need to take apart the dash.

Many of the dealers farm the installation of satellite radio to local car audio places, then charge you a nice profit over the car audio charge to the dealer. Better to work with them direct, then you should save something and if something goes wrong, you can drive direct to the installer to resolve.

I recommend you listen to the sound quality of the add-on XM tuner before making the commitment. I paid the $700 - wish I would have read this forum first.

Not sure what you mean?? Are you saying that the quality of the tuners is different from the factory Lexus tuner?
Thanks

Give these guys a try as they have excellent prices and usually have all the parts in stock. There are different kits for NAV and Non-NAV head units so be sure to order the correct one.

Yes it's a toyota dealer but all Lexus parts come from Toyota...

Not a bad idea. Lexus did away with the fit kit. It's no longer available. I think you can get all the parts seprately but they run about $480 including receiver. Before, the parts (fit kit and receiver) was about $300 list. It's probably why you dealership was charging as much as they were. BTW, the ES350 came SAT capable, not SAT ready.
