Default ES300h hide-away wipers?

I used my wipers for the first time yesterday. (I drove it off the showroom floor into the rain. ) Anyway, now the wipers appear to be in a "cocked" position. Even after restarting the engine, they stay that way. How do you get them to go back down to their "hide-away" spot?

I'm not sure about the ES but I know on the GS we have winter mode and usually we need to push it downwards back in to the cubby. Might be the same for the ES, you might have it in winter mode.

That's what it sounds like.

There should be instructions for putting them back in the normal position in the owners manual. It's kind of different if you've never done it before.

So how to you change the wiper position? (I read the linked thread... but not my manual...yet. have a page #?)

I'm doubt I'll ever see any snow, but will want to change my wiper blades.

Found it! It's under Wipers|Position in the index in the back of the manual. I just grabbed where the wiper blade attaches to the wiper arm and pushed down. You do have to exert quite a bit of force though.

I also noted that my wipers on the 350 were above the "rest" position. I was going to ask the service dept. about it until I saw this thread. I went into the manual and found, on page 329 2013 ES350 manual, information regarding setting the wipers for anticipated ice/snow or having them return to below the hoodline. It is simply a matter of sliding them up until they lock for the ice/snow setting, and pushing them down to be below the hood.

I always worry about using too much force on anything mechanical, striping or breaking a tooth. Strange that you'd need a lot of force to pull up, or push down the wipers. Maybe it's just me being paranoid.

After reading the manual I went out to check my wipers and see if I could set them high then reset them below the hood line. It does require substantial pressure and I, like you, am afraid of breaking a gear or motor by doing it. I'll let one of the service people at the dealer show me how its done.

UPDATE: Spoke to the Service Manager at the dealership and asked about the wipers. He explained that it does require substantial pressure to lower the wipers or bring them up for anticipated snow or ice. The only caution was, as the manual states, to hold the wiper at the point where the arm and wiper are joined. Not only the arm and not only the wiper itself. By pushing on one, both will move. Tried it today and worked fine.

So this needs to be done manually everytime you use wipers?

No, just until winter time again if you want to set them for winter mode. They'll always return to the same position of your current setting after using your wipers.

Can someone screw this up when they're detailing and don't about summer/winter mode?

Mine came with the wiper blades in the winter mode, and I did push them down. You just hold the wiper blade at its mid point( the point where it articulate with the wiper blade arm, and you apply a steady pressure down as if you are wiping the windshield down. There is force involved but not too much. It was not hard to do and you shouldn't break any thing. good luck.

Wow, didn't know about this two wiper positions. Mine is at the position where it would hit the hood when trying to lift the wipers. I always thought one would have to open the hood in order to change the wiper blades.
