2002 E300 12" CFL in trunk
A couple weeks ago one of the others installed CFLs in the trunk, thought I'd give it a try. I was thinking of doing the same under the hood but one of the power packs was dead. So that will be delayed a bit.
The install made a nice difference.
BTW, the wife wasn't happy with the ride on the lowered K-Sport coil overs. I pulled them and went back to stock. If anyone is interested PM me.
I picked up the wiring at the stock connector plug. The Red/yellow stripe is the 12v lead. The green is your Switched Ground.

For the moment I left the stock bulb functioning in original socket.

I mounted a bulb on either side of the speaker. Simple enough with Velcro. There is a power pack/inverter that mounts nearby w/ velcro. Sorry forgot to take a pic.

Put the fuse back in and fired her up

Looks best with 2 of them
hehe
Instead of connecting the wires up like that, go to your local Radio Shack and find the "wire tap-in squeeze connectors". Those expose the wire beneath the rubber and send the electricity to the transformer. They work very well compared to your method, which I can't say is very safe...nor a solid connection...
I used these connectors in an 07 Camry LED door sill mod for my girlfriend as well. Been working perfectly ever since
