This NYT news today should be worrisome for Toyota/Lexus and dealers selling these newer EVs, like the 8gen ES, specially with the current economy.
IMHO, Honda/Toyota are playing catch-up in a market dominated by other brands that design EVs from the ground up with better style, tech, performance, and pricing. Regardless of the subjective 8gen ES styling, offering that level of performance and specs at such a high price point, especially compared to alternatives, doesn't bode well for sales IMHO.
I'm fully supportive of EVs as their driving characteristics are superior to HEVs IMHO. I don't own one yet because I haven't transitioned to solar, and electricity costs in my area are high enough to offset potential charging savings. Also, as of now, I personally prefer the convenience of a very quick regular gas fill-up (~10 gallons) and not having to worry about charging wait times or range anxiety during my occasional out-of-home long weekend trips.
Additionally, if you're like me and tend to keep vehicles for a long time (10+ yrs) or pass them on to family members, you'll probably face an expensive $$$ out-of-warranty battery replacement due to age degradation and been a large battery pack which usually cost more to replace than the car's current market value at that point. That's why some people view EVs as somewhat disposable cars. For those who lease or don't keep their cars long-term, this is less of a concern, as current battery technology can generally last well over 200k+ miles before any significant age-related degradation becomes an issue.
Honda Posts First Ever Annual Loss After Pullback From E.V.s
The Japanese automaker posted its first loss since 1957 as it took a multibillion-dollar hit from scaling back its electric-vehicle plans.

The sharp downturn underscores the extent to which Honda — and many other automakers that poured billions into electric vehicles — has been buffeted by cooling demand.
Honda has also faced challenges in its other key markets, including China and Southeast Asia, from an influx of low-cost Chinese vehicles.

For past Lexus owners is this true for all new GEN or newer released vehicles? Cause I feel like dealers always try to mark up when vehicle first comes out. That’s why I’m waiting until the end of the year to purchase.
Dealers will try anything to bump up the MSRP with mostly useless add-ons or options that are greatly overpriced. I don't know what "maximum shield" is but it probably isn't worth a thousand dollars. Sounds like a paint protection application. I wouldn't buy a car with these ludicrous add-ons nor would I buy a car from Fremont Lexus.

facts . Especially since there is no way to prove they even did it. I hope no one falls for it
What kind of car are you driving now?
I've never bought a Lexus in the first month or 2 of a new GEN. But when I bought my 1987 Acura Legend Coupe, it was only out for 3 or 4 months. It was the Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year for 1987. The dealer wanted sticker. I was able to get $500 off, but they sure made me work for it. They said they had sold 7 or 8 before me all for sticker.

sadly a 2015 Nissan Sentra. But by the end of the year I’m 98percemt certain I will be in a 2026 Lexus es… this go round of car buying I’m trying to do due diligence so that I’m not taken advantage of at the dealer and so I know everything I can about the car I’m buying.
I’ve already looked at a lot of others cars already. I have been looking at cars since late 2025. I originally started with wanting a Toyota Camry. I wanted a Toyota crown at one point. I also in the Lexus brand was looking at the UX and the NX but ultimately decided not to go with the NX. Actually, until the yes came out and I was able to see at least BEV in person, I was going to get a UX.
I looked to briefly at the CX five, I looked also into the X5 or six for BMW or the S class, I also briefly toyed with getting a Volvo as well. The thing that keeps bringing me back to Lexus is that I’ve always liked the brand even if I haven’t owned one. And also they have the best MPG for luxury cars. I just can’t see myself spending that kind of money on a luxury car and it having such crappy gas mileage. Also, I don’t enjoy that. They’re only mild hybrids versus a full hybrid.
Luckily, I’m not in a position where I have to get a new car. I’m just choosing to upgrade my car so waiting is no issue for me.

Looks like you've thought it through pretty well. You're definitely due for something new at 11 years. The only missing piece for you is actually seeing and driving the 8ESh.
I keep my cars for a long time, too. At 7 years and 35K miles, I can go a few more years. Also, I really love my 7ESL, so it would have to be something special to motivate me to make the leap.

I drove the 26 BEV ,so yes I’m just waiting for the hybrid to come out so I can just make sure and that would be the final pin in the coffin so to speak. i’m pretty sure out of all the cars that is out that has been my favorite beside the UX.
35K miles at seven years is pretty great! With that kind of mileage that many years I can see why it would have to be something special for you to give it up.
