I can lease for a hopeful $400-$450 month payment but I shudder to think what I would have to put down.
Don't put anything down on a lease. All you'e doing is prepaying rent upfront. You won't be able to lease an ES in that range with 0 down right now, but those deals will come with time. Right now its a $700 lease.

Anyways, you should only lease if:

1. You can write a vehicle off as a business expense
2. You will wind up trading it every 3-5 years anyways

Otherwise, you should buy it from the get go.

If you see yourself keeping this car a long time, and you have the cash then put the cash down, buy it and get the payments you're comfortable with.

I had the cash for about half of my 2019 ES 350 UL. I drive a lot of miles. I kept my older 2010 ES 350 until now with 170,000 miles and it still drove great! So I buy to own. At 73 this well be my last new car! I have a home loan to finance larger purchases such as this. Then pay it off as quick as possible. Usually a few years. Smart money managers can probably advise you on how to save a few bucks with other ways to finance. But I just went car shopping one Saturday and within a few hours shook hands on mine because I had the money waiting and I really liked my colors inside and out. UL's were a bit scarce in my local area right then. Good luck!

Hey I am also shopping around for a New ES in New Jersey. So far this is the best I can do through email at about 9% dealer discount off msrp plus $1500 factory rebate. Not enough discount for me to pull the trigger yet lol.

One dealership in NJ quoted me $50074 Out the door (including all taxes, fees, and $1500 factory rebate) on a Fsport with msrp of $52,070.
Another quoted me $50300 out the door on a fsport with mrsp of $52,700.

Prestige in Ramsey gave me roughly 10% off MSRP several months ago - deals should be sweeter now..

Did the 10% off msrp include any rebates? Right now with the rebate is about 12% off msrp. I am hoping to get around 15% msrp before I am willing to pull the trigger. maybe have to wait till September when the 2020 model is about to roll out.

10% was before additional rebates etc.. 2020 may not roll out that early - hard to tell as I've seen them hold off until January in some cases for the next model year release.

After a year of ownership, I am ready to trade it in for a 2019 Ultimate Luxury ES 350 or ES 350h Hybrid.

However, to get the payment down to a comfortable $400 a month range I would have to put down about $26k.

Of course, I am financing to own, so I am just paying into the ownership of a vehicle I plan to keep for many, many years.

Am I crazy even considering this to own what I would consider being my dream retirement vehicle?

PS: Does the 350 series have a Heads-Up display? Seems to disappear when I add the Mark Levinson Navigation/Audio package
get the hybrid such a much better ride more enjoyable

After getting a really incredible offer from Lincoln on their MKZ loaded Hybrid, I visited my local Ray Catena Lexus dealer.

The guys were really nice there. The dealership looked like a luxury hotel. No doubt I was in a pricey car dealership.

First of all, The Ultimate Luxury 300h Hybrid I wanted was not available in all the specs I wanted. They told me it would take 5-8 months to build it to specs.

They did find a luxury hybrid that was missing some of the features I wanted for about $50,800.

That was about $4k more than what Lincoln was giving me on their MKZ.

However, with my Honda trade-in, Lincoln was giving me the MKZ for $339 month no money down except $2k destination, final charges.

Lexus, on the other hand, with my Honda trade-in, was quoting me $700 payments per month with no money down on a $50k vehicle they had in stock.

I don't get why Lexus was so incredibly, incredibly high. I wasn't even getting the exact car I wanted.

So, I went with the Lincoln MKZ loaded.

The reason is simple, the ES is all new and the MKZ is quite old, The ES also is a strong seller in general while the MKZ is quite weak so discounts and lease deals are going to be way better on the much older generation MKZ.

Give it a few months and deals on the ES will improve dramatically. Will never be as cheap as the MKZ though because it doesn't have to be, but you'll be able to lease an ES for $500-600.

Beautiful car. Really gorgeous. Congrats.

As far as the price, it's mind-boggling to me how my local dealer was quoting me not only an outrageous lease price but couldn't find a loaded hybrid vehicle anywhere.

$700 payment for a $50,000 car with no lease incentives is not an "outrageous" lease price. Financed for 60 months at 3%, a $50,000 car loan is $950 a month. Anyways as in anything its a negotiation, you shop it around between a few dealers you come out with a better deal. As for the loaded car, Lexus doesn't like to inventory super loaded versions of their cars, so if you want something totally loaded you'll likely have to order it. Bottom line is not a lot of buyers out there for a $56,000 Lexus ES.

Your MKZ was a lot cheaper, but its also much less car compared to the all new ES...which is why Lincoln has to discount them so steeply to sell them.

Director of Lexus informed me that the demand for the hybrid is far bigger then they expected. Waiting times for the 300h are running from 3 till 7 months , depending on the country you live in, the UK has. now delivery october, november !
Every country gets a allocated amount of vehicles depending on projected sales, but if sales are much higher then expected these allocations run out and then you go back to the end of the queue
