2022 es300h full ambient kit lights installed Foglights installed Taillight trim light bar install
(no issues for almost 4 years with the battery with the added lights)
6500 miles
car dies when not driving in less than 5 days
so basically battery is dead
should I go to autozone to get it test out to see if it’s a dead battery and go to the dealer since I have 4 months left on coverage from Lexus
is it a long procedure to get the battery replaced from the dealership or it’s like a one or two hour thing like waiting at the dealerships?
if anything I don’t mind paying out-of-pocket just to save time. What is the suggestive battery? I should get like amps and all the other special other numbers and codes that I am not familiar with like AGM please help me thanks so much. I don’t drive the car much . Should I just save money and get a battery tender ..

I have replaced my Batteries on my various cars every 4 years, whether I noticed a problem or not. I have been doing this for over 40 years. It gives me time to shop for one and put it on a nice day. This has saved me a lot of grief, instead of waiting for it to die. Car batteries are very suspect after 4 years. Before I used to wait for them to die and they always seemed to die when the temperature outside was 15 below zero and then there were all kinds of people at the Sears Battery store waiting to buy a diehard..... More often than not, they were out of my size of the battery I wanted and the price was jacked up because of low inventory. I now pick a Sunny, cool day in Mid October, and buy a battery and install it. No Stress plan.

Edit: --- I did not realize that Hybrid batteries were much different, than gas only engines..... My above comments were for gas only engines.

Every four years I agree. I had PepBoys replace my ES battery and was in and out of there in 30 minutes.

Auto zone can check your battery but not necessarily a positive test in my experience. Had them check my battery and they said good with their equipment. A few weeks later when I had my car at Lexus for a air bad recall warranty item I asked them to check the battery since I noticed a start issue sometimes and the result was a bad battery that Auto Zone said good. Lexus replaced the battery under still active base warranty.

I would check for excess amp draw when car completely in sleep mode with a fully charged battery. I assume your existing battery is able to take a full charge to do the draw test. Easy to do check Google for process with VOM.

If you get 50ma or less that would be a good sign. There could be a system that does not go to sleep and still on drawing amps?

Also check alternator operation for charging volts around 14 volts, could also deplete battery when car off if internal amp draw there.

on hybrids the battery should be a 2x change interval (minimum) vs. gas cars. that means instead of 4-5 years like pure gas cars, 8-10 years. the battery has almost no load/wear and tear on it in hybrids, unless i suppose you are plugging in a bunch of things to it.

also hybrid batteries are in the trunk so not subject to heat like the pure gas version which hangs out with the engine all day.

i'd even say hybrid 12v batteries are effectively lifetime for most people (lifetime of the ownership of the car)

so OP could have some kinda parasitic draw he's not aware of that caused his battery to die.

For a 300h any H5 will do.

I think they don’t last as long precisely because they aren’t worked as hard as a regular gasoline vehicle’s battery. They’re usually smaller in size/capacity, which makes them more susceptible to being fully charged most of the time.

I haven’t checked whether my 300h uses an AGM or lead‑acid, but I’d recommend OP either an OEM replacement or an AGM.

Maybe in the future an LFP option might be worth considering, if compatibility allows, especially for those of us warmer climates. A small LFP with a good BMS should last a long time...

Good to know for my wife's RXh! How about the HV battery filter - how often doe that need to be changed or cleaned?

I really depends on what you do with the car.
Mine is always clean, I take it out and don't even bother to clean it, so I just put it back having done nothing :D

It seems that the 12v battery in hybrid models doesn't last as long as the one in the ES350, and its lifespan may be even shorter for low-mileage drivers.

For the HV battery filter, my '23 owner's manual only says to "clean at specified intervals" and doesn’t mention replacement. The maintenance schedule does note to "check HV battery cooling intake filter" every 5k after the first 10k, and a "clean HV battery cooling intake filter" every 20k. However, @ESh mentioned in the “What did you do to your ES today?” thread a battery cooling intake filter replacement every 20k; so I plan to follow that approach.

Four years and 6500 miles the battery is mostly depleted all the time. This charging system in the 300h never fully charges the battery even on long trips. The parasitic draw will fluctuate between 50ma and 175ma normally from DCM so slowly drains battery. Check with a meter and you will see what I mean. I fully charged mine once/mth and kept on maintainer when sitting more than 1 week. Changed mine at 6 years recently only for peace of mind. If you carry it to Lexus they will do a full recharge and then check it and most likely ok. They will tell you that it is not driven enough is the reason it was low.

Bought battery for my LS430 cause over 6 years also from Costco. Saved $10 from not purchasing from Sams, etc but warranty only prorated. Battery after 1 month failed and Costco charged me $4. Not worth it since Sams has a full 36 mth warranty free replacement.
