The non-US ES versions (so far I've seen it on the Japan and Australia) have the digital rearview mirror on their models. I've used it on other vehicles and really like it.
I haven't found anywhere where someone has retrofitted that rearview digital cam on the US models. It's seems like hardware wise you could replace the rearview mirror and the camera housing on the back. There isn't any programming needed since they operate independently from our head units from what I've seen.
Would there be any complications to changing this that I should be aware of? I've noticed Lexus prewire quite a bit of things for the different trim levels but being as our ES is assembled in the US it might not be the case for this. But surely the wiring route would be similar to the backup camera cabling which routes to the infotainment? Other models in the US have this option so wondering how they do it.
I go to Japan frequently and next time I go wanted to buy these 2 parts but looking to get you guys opinions first.
You may only lose the Homelink (garage door opener), camera for lane tracing, auto headlight dimming, and rear view mirror dimming, plus who knows what else. You also may find that the wiring and programming are different.

Isn't the rearview mirror only getting power? Homelink and the dimming being self contained in the mirror.
To me the unknowns are just:
- How to add the second rear camera? is it just an addition or does it replace the existing one with 2 cameras
- How to wire the new rearview camera to the mirror? I suppose its not wireless.
I have the normal/digital rearview in an NX. I absolutely hate it.
I can't understand how people can look at a screen 2 feet of their eyes without being bothered. I suppose presbyopia would make it even worse so my anger will only grow in the future

Thank you but a few things I have confirmed:
Homelink - I will lose, but I don't ever use this feature so it's not a deal breaker.
camera for lane tracing - not connected, different system on windshield
auto headlight dimming - not connected, different system on dash
and rear view mirror dimming - will most likely lose the driver side view mirror dimming, not an issue as I have tinted windows

So the second camera is a combo of the backup camera, it's a unit for both on the ES based on the part diagrams. The wiring is what I'm trying to figure out. There's 2 connectors on the mirror, one for power and one to the camera.
And yes, I hear a few people don't like them! But I've actually used it on various Lexus vehicles and I loved it, including your NX haha!
