battery and tire question
The only thing that could happen in a battery swap is if polarity is wrong. I have never seen this happen but it is possible to happen anywhere. A mechanic anywhere can be distracted. I have seen and it happens at all dealerships where an oil change will have a new filter put on and oil not put in. Mechanic has 5 things going on at once and goes to parts counter for 1 vehicle and comes back thinking oil from main supply has been put in another vehicle. You get a free remanufactured engine but believe me that is nothing like factory. Always check your dip stick before leaving. I do everything myself if I can. It can't get much easier than replacing a battery and like I said memory is not a problem with these cars.
Would my nearby Toyota dealership be able to replace my Lexus’ battery with one like it came with, as opposed to enduring a two hour round trip to the Lexus dealership and having to wait there for them to get to it and do it?
Any inde shop can replace the battery - Toyota can do it as well. I wouldn't worry about the OEM thing. Lexus doesn't manufacture their own batteries.
My lifetime independent mechanic sells Interstate, which seems to have a good reputation on this board. Have to ask him if he has that gadget to affix during the battery change so my settings aren’t lost.
No special gadget just a 12v source. You would be surprised to find out the memory not lost. First time I did it I was prepared to completely redo settings and only thing I could find was going from state to state notification in nav settings. These ecus probably now come with non volatile memory so memory is not lost when 12v removed.
Alex: you are right. Mistakes at dealership are possible. If they make a mistake they can and should fix it. They should also know the car better than other shops. I have seen in this forum owners reporting lot of problems when a simple battery exchange was done without a memory saver. I have also seen a couple of videos showing the benefit of a memory saver. I would expect the dealer to be aware and do the needful when changing battery so that there is no problem after the change. It is for this reason going to the dealer feels safer, at least for battery. For things like oil change, replacing brake pads, etc may be one can go to a mechanic. I am not a do yourself type. Nor do i have the necessary tools.
Well, from what i have seen in videos, there is a gadget that hooks up to the obd II port located under the dash and the other end is hooked up to a 12v source. It can also be done by hooking up a jumper cable to the terminal cables of your car and the other end being attached to another car that has good battery.
Using a external 12v source is perfectly fine connected to any 12v constant port on car. What kind of problems have others stated from changing the battery? I know Mike has stated about his backup lines but I am not sure that was battery related and don't remember other posts that I remember.
Your are doing the right thing as far as preventative maintenance because new batteries don't last as long as they used too. Lucky if you get 4 years. Yet your still not replacing it now. My 2013 Avalon stock battery lasted 6 years and I replaced it with the Walmart Everstart and had no problems. Changed it myself and used a memory saver system that plugged into my ODB2 port. I did have to use a spare 12V battery that I had on hand for my generator. I've seen Youtube videos were people have used just a standard 9V battery connected to the cars battery terminals. Any auto parts store can change it for free and should use a memory saver. If you use Walmart, check with their auto department 1st. If they have no idea what your talking about then leave and go elsewhere.
Hope this clarifies my pointers.
My 2019 is now in it's 6th. year. If the battery goes south I'll call AAA and then it's Costco for me at around $125.00 and I install it myself. Takes about 20-30 minutes and with a tender attached no loss of any settings. As Alex stated, changing a battery is a very easy DIY job. No way would I pay someone $109.00 to drop in a battery, and no way I'd pay Lexus $216.00 for a battery I could get with free extra warranty for $125.00. Another member correctly stated that there's probably only 3 manufacturers of batteries in America anyway. Interstate, IMO, is one of the best...

I bought it for my 2013 Avalon in 2019. Just traded the car in for new ES350. So 4 years no problems.

All this talk of 2019 batteries got me up to go check mine. Rather pleased to see a Lexus battery dated 9/22. They must've put a new one in before I bought it CPO in 10/22.
This information adds nothing to the conversation. Carry on.

Adds to their attempt to showcase a CPO as having been “totally refurbished.” New brakes, new tires, new battery, etc. Glad to see it’s not totally mere advertising.
