Vinyl peeling off?
Hello all,
I bought a 2019 ES 300h (japanese built) this weekend with 7,500 miles and flaxen interior. Two questions: Is there a fix for the vinyl located on either side of the front seats peeling off? See pic below. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...1182c840a.jpeg Has anybody seen this sticker (I believe) on a Lexus? I would personally like to take it off - see pics below. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...9f4e57a8e.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...c6e1223d2.jpeg Thank you! |
I was just thinking today the vinyl nuluxe in my CT200h F Sport (2015) had top shelf quality. Not a single sign of wear after 60,000 miles and 6 years. Zero wear. Zero. My 7ES seats (Both ESes I had) started wearing on the seat bottom at around 6 months. No peeling or anything, but quite apparent wear in/stretching of the material.
My CT200h seat bottom and bolsters were fully factory with no signs of any wear at all. I felt like i could stomp on them with my feet and not wear them. The 7 ES seats seem delicate/easy to wear. I think the seats would be my main motivator for not buying at end of lease. That or I would have the bottom done at an upholstery shop. shouldn't be that expensive. i'd have them add more cushion too. I think in your case, take it to a shop. |
The pin striping is some aftermarket add-on. I personally would take it off if possible. If it's painted on it could be a problem. Looks like tape in the photo. If it's tape just peel it off.
One word of caution is that sometimes the paint is darker under the tape due to the sun. As far as the unusual wear on the seat edge, this can occur with overweight persons rubbing the seat edge when entering and exiting. Replacement, in my opinion, would be required. GOOD LUCK! :wiggle: |
My Nuluxe at four years 60k miles still looks brand new including the driver seat.

I wish my real leather 22 ESh UL had fake leather, it lasts sooooo much longer with less maintenance.

I adore my real leather and would never want the fake stuff. It feels great and smells great. It's one of the things I willingly paid extra for.

The seats seem to be real leather. The sides are probably vinyl, maybe not Nulux. Did you ask Lexus if they honor warranty since this is clearly a quality defect?

Unacceptable. It was supposed to be real leather.

If you zoom in on that pic you'll see it's very obviously fake leather, not real. Aside from Bentley and Rolls, you will not see any automaker putting real leather on the side of the seat. Only the part that touches you when you are sitting is real, it's been this way forever, no need to be upset in a Lexus of all things. Everything Lexus is built to a price point.

Where does it say that? Even the current website details uses the nebulous phrasing, "leather interior trim", which leaves large latitude to use the industry standard "seating surfaces" but never says every inch of the interior is covered in actual leather. |
Real leather or not, that seat looks horrible and reaffirms my desire to go with black interiors only. The pinstripes with the Lexus logo? Hmmmmm That's a first.
