Downhill Assist Control System?

I received a Lexus survey about whether or now I was familiar with specific features.

One of the features the survey addressed was "Downhill Assist Control," something I'd never heard about.

Is that a current or past feature?

What in the world is it?

DAC (Downhill Assist Control System). The DAC helps to prevent excessive speed on steep downhill slopes. I remember the GX having a DAC switch, but I never recalled it in any RXs I've driven. So I would anticipate that it would be primarily in "true" SUVs and some crossovers.

What is Toyota’s Downhill Assist Feature?
Toyota’s downhill assist control system helps the vehicle maintain a constant low speed of about 3 mph when descending a steep hill. In addition, the downhill assist feature functions without brake pedal operation.

Is it a lower gear operation? What is the source of the "hold-back?"

Maybe this video will help.

I had it on my 4Runner and both Tacomas. Never used it.

I was a participant with the Lexus Advisory Board. Occasionally, I would get surveys assessing future features and programs related to Lexus vehicles -- ES sedans. The surveys also gauged interest in possible future generalized Lexus programs.

Is this for ES?

I wonder who takes their ES off roading...???

I do know it can easily sit on top of snow with the flat bottom and wheels off the ground in deep snow. Luckily the RX can pull it out though.

I've used DAC on a 1st gen GX 470 a few times going down some gnarly forest service roads - it's impressive. The operation is pretty noisy though :)
