Custom ambient light swap PROJECT
You really have me interested in doing this, but I have the predicament of I have no idea where I can source power in the rear doors of my IS since Lexus cheaped out and only illuminated the front handles. I'm also curious how you wired the light on the dash. Ideally I would like to find a plug and play kit as I absolutely hate cutting electrical wires. It's the one thing you can't undo. I wonder if some plug and play adapters exist or can be fabricated.
I’m not sure on a labor cost but I assure you a pro could get it done faster than me LOL but I am a bit OCD so I am careful and take my time, I work a few hours here and there, not rushed.

So, you didn't have to take off the pathetic (WEAK) led strip before adding your led one? I like your idea that you can change or dim the lighting color and want to copy your idea Sooooooo badly but I don't want our car to burn to the ground because of my lack of wiring skills!
I also Really like that you installed the lighting in the door cup holders too! That adds to the ambience of your setup! Once again, Great job and wished that you lived closer!

There is no chance of your car burning down as long as you tap into the existing ambient lighting wires. It's low voltage.
Thanks. No I didn't remove the pathetic stock ambient light strip from the door panels because it is actually easier to leave it there. The aftermarket one wouldn't fit as nicely and I wanted to extend the strip a bit so in order to keep it nice and straight I chose to do it this way.

I knew that i wouldn't burn the car down but was using that as a dramatic effect to show how bad I am at wiring.
I forgot to mention that for the dash part I did remove some of the existing ambient light strip. I had to do that to make it fit right.
Currently I have the lights set to "pink" and surprisingly I really like it.

If there was no ambient light from the factory in the rear doors I think you would have to run wires directly. In my case I wanted to tap into the existing wiring so it would dim when I put the car in gear, I could have just wired it to be on when the ignition was on but would have to run more wires to accomplish that. A plug-and-play kit would be ideal.

I'd buy one from you!
Well surprisingly you really don't need anything extra aside from what's in the Aliexpress kit. There are other kits that fit a little better but for the money, I'm totally happy with my setup.
