Quote: I seriously doubt it is as simple as a software install. I wouldn’t be surprised if it runs a different processor, with a wider bus. These kinds of changes are rarely as simple as they look.
I think when they redesigned the infotainment center they did it in mind to install the new software so the 2022 owners probably have everything needed except the software. I can’t see them putting that much work into redesigning the Infotainment center two years in a row. Of course I could be wrong but I bet it’s nothing more than software

I firmly believe that Lexus can update the software on the 2022 ES for the infotainment system in order for all 2022 ES owners to have the exact software update that the 2023 ES owners will have on the uodated 2023 infortainment system. I don't believe that this is a hard thing to do. A simple software update should do the trick.

The new software is probably not compatible with the touch pad. I can't imagine them spending development time supporting a feature they are phasing out. I don't think an upgrade will be an option because that will make a section of your center console a paperweight.

However, I sure would be happy if they did offer upgrades.

I agree. From a pure business perspective it doesn’t make sense. Toyota is a business and they want new features that encourage people to upgrade to the latest model. They don’t care about hurting the feelings of anyone with a new 2022 model if they can’t get the new design. Assuming this is a mere software upgrade is simply wishful thinking that doesn’t account for the business model or the technology involved. Just ask those 2019 ES owners that wanted Android Auto how that worked out! They are still waiting for an upgrade that was purportedly available in select other countries. Time will tell but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

This is pretty much guaranteed.

Quote: True..

1st MY= Don't buy it! Let the manufacturer fix all the kinks!
2nd MY= Don't buy it! Still too new... and besides.. a refresh is coming next year!
3rd MY= OK it's refreshed... but I dunno.. only 2 more years and the new design is coming
4th MY= these new colors and options are nice, but I think I'll just wait for the next model year
5th MY= The next gen design is leaked. It looks weird. Maybe I'll play it safe and get a good deal on this one. It's the most reliable! Or maybe....

So true!!!

I would probably bend the rule for year 2 though. Might bite the bullet then..

At this point we do not even know if the 2023 updates will apply to the U.S. I am happy with my 2022 and do not feel like I am missing out on anything monumental if the update comes through.

I am disappointed the tail lights never changed and doesn't look like they will. Maybe the 8ES will get the 3IS refresh treatment with new sheetmetal & exterior, but same everything. I wouldn't mind that as the bones of the 7ES are incredible as is.

I think that's a sensible guess, except the powertrain. "Same everything" won't include a naturally aspirated V6. Even though I prefer the V6 over a coarser turbo Four, that's a fair tradeoff if it adds true AWD to go with 300 horses.

my wife has the IS300 with turbo four and Lexus just doesn’t do turbo fours as well as Audi or VW. The car is so slow until it hits 3k rpm’s where the VW feels very strong right from idle. My guess is the programming is holding the Lexus back but the wife doesn’t want to tune her car.

That's a different engine. IS has the old 2.
0 liter NX engine. The new engine is completely new 2.4L.

The new engine is for the 2023 model but we will have to see if they change the way they program it. If they stay just as conservative as They have in the past I would expect it to be just as slow until about 3000 RPMs.

Quote: As a '22 owner I would suggest Lexus should let us get a software update even if we have to pay for it, to get the new user interface, instead of buying a new car. But, I think that is an impossible request, not for technical reasons though...
I think if we check with the system that has been placed in the '23. It may just be a module that is needed to be switched? I'm still waiting for my dealer to allow me to put in the order for '23. Planning on ES350

There’s no need for me to let anyone know. I’m sure that you will know about the update before I do if Lexus ever has one.
