2019 ES300h headliner clicking

My headliner makes a clicking noise (not constant) that sounds like two sided tape coming apart from the metal roof and headliner. It seems worse in colder weather. Live in Wisconsin so temps can get chilly. However, it seems to get worse when I crack the window open. I can’t seem to isolate it but was wondering if in fact the headliner is held with two sided tape. To be upfront, I despise two sided tape. The car is under warranty but the dealer is an hour away and dont really trust them to make it better. I fear it will be worse if they tear the headliner out. Looking to know how it is attached and if others are having same issue. Thanks.

Not sure if this is the case with your car, but there were reports on the forum of the "clicking" sound coming from overhead near the driver side. It was determined to be the grab handle mounted overhead and in back of the driver's head. Various fixes were tried and most included simply tightening up the parts or somehow insulating the joints. Hope this helps and good luck as it can be annoying... :bigthumbu

That is the location

I’ll try tightening the handle as that is the general vicinity of the noise. Thanks.

Yeah headliner is one of those things you just do not want to touch, especially on a new car. it's very sensitive and very expensive. one wrong move and you'll fold it and that noise will be the least of your concerns. not only that you'll get it greasy, dirty etc and especially if it's a light color, you'll never get that grease/ dirt off. and no matter what color, it will never have the same appearance. it's just not really a DIY item for all intents and purposes. (that purpose of having a nice pristine car)

I have this annoying noise on my 2019 ES300h (Japan built), its is a clicking/ticking sound from the headliner area above the driver side while driving over rough surfaces. I couldn't pinpoint where it is coming from and the dealership was not helpful at all. I brought it up thrice during services and every time their comment was "couldn't replicate". Unfortunately due to COVID-19 I couldn't drive with a technician. During the last service changed the grab handle (driver side), but didn't help. I am planning to take it to a different dealership (about 90 minutes away) for the next service as it is getting worse.

As you undoubtedly know, "couldn't replicate" is enshrined right up there with "working as designed" in the Dealer Service Writers' Excuses Hall of Fame.
