Electronic Parking Brake
I have had my 2019 ES for about 2 months now and not sure if there is an issue with the electronic parking brake. Never had one before, but it seems kind of loud when it automatically applies itself. Is this normal? It’s not super load but you can definitely hear it from a distance (across the street for example). You can barely hear it when it releases, as I would expect, just not sure what’s normal.
I guess I could always turn the auto apply to off. Thanks! |
As far i know this is normal

How do you hear it from across the street? Someone else setting it for you? I almost never use it anyway.
|
You should be able to deactivate the auto parking brake by holding down the parking brake switch until the "auto" light turns off.

I thought that the automatic brake engaged when the vehicle was placed in "park" and disengages when put back in gear. Is this incorrect? I also noticed that when the car is on a hill and is placed in reverse, that a clunk is heard. To me this is perfectly normal. I don't see why one would have to activate the parking brake... :dunno:

Thanks for the comments guys! |
Normal. All modern Toyotas and Lexuses share the same unit. Camrys and Rav4s make the same exact sound.
Wouldn't be surprised if shared with Honda too as I've heard them make a similar/same sound. |
New generation IS's now automatically apply the Parking Brake if you open the driver's door while in gear...
More than annoying when you are positioning the car on a mechanics rack and need to look down close to the car. |
I don't hear any noise when I shift into PARK. Should I?
When I shift into PARK, I see the PARK indicator light go on. Does that mean the electric parking brake has been triggered? |

When you select "park" the parking brake is automatically engaged unless you disable it. When placed in gear the brake is disengaged automatically.

That's what I thought. So, why don't I hear the noise that people in this thread are talking about?
I don't hear any sound when shifting to Park and the Park light comes on. |
