Sloppy work happens at many dealers. My most recent experience this past weekend - brought my wife's RX in for an oil change and when I got home and checked the dipstick, it was roughly one full quart low. Unreal.Originally Posted by artbuc

A Lexus Service Manager offered me a full tank of gas and free car wash if I would not mention a recent service visit in the upcoming Customer Quality Survey. I had my brand new LS400 there for 3-4 issues. Much to the Service Manager’s surprise, I inspected the work and discovered missing parts and incomplete reassembly on every single item. He said that kind of sloppy work would NEVER happen in his Service Department. He basically called me a liar. The next day he called me at work to apologize. He walked into the work area first thing in the morning and found the missing parts on the shop floor. I told him his bribe offer was more offensive than the sloppy work. I toasted him on the survey.

Thank you, this is the kind of information I was looking for when I started this thread.Originally Posted by carsareus

I find this statement glib, and unhelpful. I can only afford a $50K luxury vehicle, not a $200-300K vehicle. Asking other's opinions/experiences about the Kentucky built ESh shouldn't have caused as much angst as it has.Originally Posted by carsareus
Honestly if you are this concerned about quality of this car then maybe you should buy a Bentley or RR.

BUT it did! Sometimes I think peoples expectations for a $40-$50K car are absurd. I was being Flippant but YOU obviously got the point didn't you? I do believe that some people get a lemon when they buy a new car. I thinks its rare in most cases but I think it happens with pretty much EVERY car manufacture. Originally Posted by Wilson2000

I honestly would not worry about where its built. The same machinery builds them in KY that builds them in Japan. I just got done with an exhaustive search for my next car which resulted in my purchasing my S Class, but I drove many cars from German carmakers that were made in the US vs made in Germany, name;y the BMW sedans (made in Germany) and BMW SUVs (made in the US), Mercedes sedans (made in Germany) and Mercedes SUVs (made in the US) and I never saw any difference in quality or build or anything like that.
When it comes to reliability, the vast majority of reliability issues come from the quality of components not the way in which they were assembled.
I'm a huge car quality snob, and I truly wouldnt even look and see where it was built.

No, your statement about buying a Bentley or RR made no sense whatsoever.Originally Posted by carsareus

The original question was about owner's experiences with the Kentucky built ESh. I explained my reservations, and for the most part, posters addressed them. I'm thankful for the input and it is exactly why I'm a CL member.

It does make sense, its about expectations. The ES is an entry level mass produced product, and they aren't perfect, whether they are made in Japan or the US.

OK Steve, I challenge you...please explain how my asking for owner's opinions about their Kentucky-built ESh's quality warranted this response: "Honestly if you are this concerned about quality of this car then maybe you should buy a Bentley or RR."Originally Posted by SW17LS

Perfect quality would be nice, but certainly isn't expected. There are many complaints in the 7-gen forum, so I asked the question if owners felt it was related to the plant origin. That's all. For the most part (excluding the sarcasm) I felt like I got great feedback, and I'm now less concerned about the country of origin.

I don’t think it was the original question as some of the follow up responses.

If I led posters to believe I was looking for Bentley/Rolls Royce quality for the price of an ES, I apologize!
In all honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the ES has fewer quality issues than Bentley/RR. Before anyone attacks this statement, I'm not saying the ES is a better car!

I would take that bet lol. If you’ve ever been in a Bentley or RR, they are incredibly well constructed, by hand by master craftsmen and inspected with a fine tooth comb like 45 times before they ever get into the hands of a customer.

I wouldn't bet against the Bentley/RR for initial quality, but for long-term...I might.

I have a 2015 RX350 which was built in Canada and I love my vehicle. But perfect it is not. I had in the dealership 3 times for a squeak emanating from the rear. Turns out it was the misalignment of the hatch which caused the strut to rub on the body. Would I buy it again, ABSOLUTELY.
