Shaking when braking

I have a 2019 ES base with 12k on it. I've had it about a year now. On the highway slowing down to exit or stop for some reason or another, the steering wheel shakes and I hear a "wooing" sound when brake applied.

Any idea of what it could be?

Not sure about the ‘wooing’ sound, but a steering wheel shake when applying brakes sounds like a warped front disc rotor. It is typically more noticeable at highway speeds. Usually caused by overheating the rotors, like riding the brakes on a steep downhill drive. Need to have it checked!

The "wooing" sound is a bad ML system. Sorry - couldn't resist:)

I agree. Toyota top brass should be executed or be given life time sentences without possibility of parole for defrauding the public with the ML system.

I had the same issue with the addition of brake noise at low speed. The dealership resurfaced the rotors a couple of weeks ago and that took care of both issues. Until yesterday, when the brake noise returned.

My wife's 5th Gen ES warped the rotors at around 35K. Because the OEM rotors warped, I replaced them with aftermarket EBC rotors and have gone 40K more miles trouble free. Any quality brand rotor will likely outlast the OEM, based on my experience. BTW...my wife rides her brakes incessantly.

I have an appointment Tuesday. Let's see what happens. This cars garbage. My first and last ES.

Im having some front end vibration issues as well - at high speed and also when braking from high speed. Appt next week at the dealer. Already had all four wheels balanced but no change.

I have an appt. Tuesday. Let me know what they say. I'm also bringing up the rear speakers not working and terrible transmission julting

From what I have noticed so far the braking noise is louder than before. Not sure what to do at this point, taking the vehicle into the dealership again will probably just be a waste of time. Seems like I just have to live with it for the next couple of years since I refuse to invest money on a vehicle I'm not going to keep.

Describe your brake noise in detail and maybe we can offer solutions. Is it a squealing? Is it a grinding? Is it whooshing? Many times brakes can be quieted by putting more brake grease on the shims that insulate the pads from the caliper pistons. Is your vehicle under warranty? Certainly the previous work you had done would be warranted. If the dealer won't resolve this, run your complaint up to Lexus corporate.

kalel2127 Sep 28, 2020 09:47 AM

It's a squealing noise that only happens when I apply light braking at slow speeds (under 5mph). For example, I can hear it when backing out of my garage, parking, and when using a drive-thru at a restaurant. This has been going on since when I reached 2k miles on the vehicle. The dealership has "corrected" the issue on three separate occasions. During the 5k & 10k mile service and when I took the vehicle in for a fuel pump swap (13k miles). I will consider reaching out to corporate in hopes they can offer a solution.

I hear you. There are things about this car that are beginning to annoy me as well and make me question whether I will keep it for the long haul.
