all Lexus cars in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain , UAE doesn't have apple CarPlay
but owners who bought the car from Canada and USA have CarPlay
I would like to know Is it possible to add CarPlay to my car ?
Is it software or hardware ?

Most probably it is an software related change. It is shocking to see that after charging nearly 100,000 USD (as per the conversion rate with INR), Lexus would skimp on these features or even worse disable it.
As per my knowledge, ES sold in Europe, Middle east and India are preconfigured by Lexus with 12.3” navigation and ML sound system but doesn’t come with Apple carplay. Whereas the same configuration in USA is equipped with Carplay.

 

I do believe it is a software upgrade , i actually just received an E-Mail from Toyota that they are adding Apple Carplay to the Camry and for me to take in my other car for service so that it can be upgraded to support Apple CarPlay.

 

I think CarPlay and AA need to come soon to Europe and elsewhere. There’s a lot of internet chatter about this with talks of October 2019 being a possible date for something to be released. Lexus Australia are touting that models will get CarPlay before the calendar year is out. We still don’t know how it will be rolled out and to what models and what the cost will be.
If Lexus and Toyota want their cars to appeal to a younger generation then this basic phone connectivity is a must.

Is that mean the Lexus company can add CarPlay to used Lexus cars?

 

They added them for the 2018 LS in May of this year. The head unit needed a firmware update to support CarPlay. It works really well. Earlier LS models do not have the requisite hardware to support CarPlay natively. There are third party vendors who do support CarPlay though.

I don't think the 2018 and older ES models will every have CarPlay support from Lexus. You will need a third party system.
