Acura RLX vs Lexus ES350?
Has anyone directly compared the two? I am torn between the 2019 Toyota Avalon Limited, 2019 Acura RLX Advanced, and 2019 Lexus ES 350 ultra luxury.
I like that the RLX was built on a higher cost platform, made in Japan, and has rear acoustic glass.

I've always thought the RLX is kind of intriguing, but it sells in very small numbers and most of the reviews on it seem to be mediocre. Last month Acura sold only 50 RLX and they average a little over 100 per month. There has been speculation as to whether or not Acura will keep it in their lineup. I'm glad Acura has stuck with it though. Having a choice is always good.

The Avalon interior is quite inferior to the ES - have a look.

That glossy wood looks like crap in the es. At least the rlx didn't bother to use real wood to gloss and the Avalon has open pore veneer.
The es infotainment touchpad is terrible. At least Acura used an obsolete 2 screen touch screen.

I've always thought the RLX was a nice posh luxury sedan very much like the ES. But I did not formally check it out. I know the sticker is 8-10K more than the ES, but I suspect Acura would discount a lot since they sell so few of RLXs. The features look pretty close to the same, but you can get AWD. I did not drive the Acura, but I would expect it to drive just as well and be just as quiet as the Lexus.
The Acura looks a bit dated to me and I would be bummed if they discontinue it. I really like the fresh modern lines of the ES. And I love the huge screen in the ES.
The Avalon is very nice but it does not feel like luxury to me. I very much prefer the interior layout of the ES. I know they are built on the same platform and share the same engine, but the sheet metal, lines and especially the interior are all a lot nicer in my mind.

I agree 100% with what you said. I just can't get over paying 14-16k premium on a es ultra luxury over a Avalon limited. At least the Acura is built from the ground up on its own platform.
I'm going have to choose between a 36k 2019 Avalon limited vs a 33k 2017 Rlx advanced.
The RLX has noise cancelation and better speaker system than the ES that's for sure!

Those who are reading this thread and who are not familiar with the posting history of this thread's OP should do a search and read other threads started by him/her. If you read those other threads, you will quickly find that the OP has started a large number of "comparison" threads, and the very transparent purpose of those threads has been to bash the ES and/or Lexus, in general.

So I guess we can't bash or talk about car flaws now? Sorry to offend all their owners who have weak skin and can't handle criticism on their cars!
From an engineering standpoint, the ES and Avalon are just a stretched, fancy Camry platform.
Pardon me, would you have any grey poupon?

Agreed the OP is a troll, but I will play.
How do you figure a well optioned Avalon Limited is $39k? More like $44k with the tech package and the additonal things Toyota throws in (wheel locks, mats, etc). Not really comparable to a UL ES either, comparable luxury ES is about a $48-49k car
I think a $4-5k premium for the better interior, more prestigious brand, better warranty, better dealer service makes sense.
The RLX is a really old car at this point, and resale will be nowhere near as good as the ES.

Between my wife and I we have owned 12 Acura's including two RL's which I really enjoyed. Thought I would stay with them forever. Moved to Lexus six years ago and no looking back. Something has happened to Acura/Honda regarding their reliability. The last two to three years we started having issues mechanically. Lexus is easy to track. Been #1 for eight years in a row in dependability by J D Power. We have not had one thing go wrong. Acura in 2014 was ranked 4th, 2016 8th, 2018 20th and 2019 26th. This is certainly an alarming trend.
