Default Bit of lag time on kick down

Only in the 30 mph + or - range. Part throttle to flooring it. Seems like about 1/2 second of lag time for the kick down to take hold? Normal?

Yes, I noticed the same thing too. I was happy with 6 speed last gen transmission. Lexus needs to work on transmission reprogramming.

Try the Sport setting of the Drive Mode.

Sport mode doesn't really help. Still a lag in kickdown in the 30-40mph range. The F sport I test drove did the same thing. I too think it is in the software programing.

At that speed, the transmission is going from around 6th gear to 2nd gear. It takes a moment to drop that make gears. Totally normal.

Like others said, put it in sport mode if you want more aggressive shifts.

I don't doubt it is totally normal. Just think Lexus could do a better job on the transmission programing. Going to Sport mode helps a little but does not eliminate the lag.

CAFE standards control the makers these days.

It's near impossible to have your cake and eat it too when it comes to transmissions. If you want it to downshift 4-5 gears instantly, you'll pay a lot more and it will not be smooth. It also won't be found in a FWD family sedan. The lag you're feeling helps everything you're doing to happen as smooth as possible. The car also learns your driving style and adjusts accordingly. If you're going full throttle frequently, the transmission will learn and downshift with less lag. Perfect example, when I first bought my car there was a huge delay after slowing for a turn and then trying to accelerate. It always wanted to stay in 3rd gear and crawl along. Now that I have 1200ish miles on it and I do the same thing, it automatically shifts to 2nd gear when exiting a turn and works perfectly.

Try pulling the paddle shifter or throwing the gear selector in manual mode right before you give part throttle. That should help quite a bit. I rarely depend on the TCU to drop gears for me in scenarios where I’m looking to pass or merge.

About transmission downshift learning I guess mine is retarded, it doesn't seem to learn at all with 3,000 miles and lots of wide open throttle! About shifting to Sport mode or shifting to lower gears like S4 in town does greatly reduce the lag time. Of course if I shift right into the lower gear I want there is no lag time at all.
