2019 Lexus ES 350 - Something different about windows?
Hello,
I figured I'd start this thread with the 2019 Lexus ES 350 owners, as I've had very little response on another...hopefully somebody here has more information than me. As much as I want to get it done, I am holding off on getting my 2019 ES 350 F Sport tinted, until there’s more explanation and clarification on the windows, and whether or not they are safe to be tinted and not get scratched during the cleaning process. I actually had a very competent and reliable tinter pass on getting my windows tinted - better safe than sorry. For those owners of the new 2019 models, please see this video regarding a recent tinting experience with the new 2019 NX 300 models and let me know your thoughts. Not sure if this experience will affect our models as well. It appears that there may be something on our window which may get damaged. Thanks |
I wouldnt be worried just sounds like they used a dull razor blade, a dull blade will scratch any glass. If you wanted your car tinted get it done at a good shop that has good quality tint, many shops use pre-cut tint if youre worried about them using a blade.

Makes no sense. Toyota doesn't make glass, its made by a handful of manufacturers, the glass in a Lexus is no different than the glass in any other car...

Thanks for the responses. I would like to believe that the newer 2019 Lexus model glass is no different, but here are some other things I found related to this topic. The tinter I was working with does use the pre-cut tints, so the only time the blade would touch glass should only be the cleaning/prepping process. Our glass was similar to the NX glass in that the one’s labeled “UVS” are more prone to this scratching. Just doing my due diligence to better understand this coating that may be potentially scratched and removed when cleaning/prepping the glass in order to install the tint: |
So that makes a little bit more sense, its not the glass itself its some sort of coating on the inside of the glass...

I’d prefer to keep the coating on, undamaged, vs. having it removed for the sake of tinting. It’s my understanding that the NX glass with UV or UVS on the “label” may be susceptible to this scratching phenomenon, which is what mine have. I’ll just have to “wait and see” for now. Hopefully, there’s a way for the tinter to properly clean the inside the glass without a blade, and not damage the window or inside coating. Looking forward to hearing how other ‘19 Lexus ES 350 owners fare, if they decide to tint. https://www.tintdude.com/forum/topic...00-windshield/ |
I would want to know what the coating is for. If its a UV inhibitive coating then its superfluous under quality tint anyways.
|
My understanding is that it is an IR coating on the inside. It cannot be cleaned with a razor blade. I haven't found anybody who can give me a definitive answer on whether you can successfully tint over it. It cannot be removed. If anybody gets a better answer to this, I'd love to know as my OCD kicks in every time I walk to my car & the front windows don't match the back.

Do you mind sharing pics? Also how your rear and side windows “labeled”? Are they labeled as UV and UVS glass? Thanks |

I tinted my 2019 es fsport with 20%. I went to a great place and have not seen any problems yet. I will report any problems if they arise. Keep in mind tinting over this particular factory tint makes it much darker than the tint you are applying. I put 20% on there but it looks more like 10%.
|
Yes I tinted the 4 side windows and the back. I don't know if there was IR coating on the inside, but I can tell you that the windows already looked lightly/moderately tinted when I bought the car. However, there was no tint "film" detectable on the window. I did not speak to the tint people about what they did because they are the best in Miami according to all the review sites and they do all the Heat/Dolphins players, etc. They didn't seem to run into any problems and all is still perfect. I will say I'm a bit disappointed with how dark it turned out due to the originally darkish color. If you have the same windows I had, just imagine that adding 35% tint will make it look like 20% and adding 20% will make it look like 9-10%.

Hmmm monitoring , mines in for tint now. |
