Is the new ES worth the $10k premium over Avalon?

I'm having this same quandary. I drove the 2019 Avalon Limited Hybrid, fully loaded, MSRP, $47k, and liked it very much. Very quiet, smooth, and great fit and finish. including what appears to be the same upgraded triple LED headlamps as the Lexus, standard on the Limited Avalon Hybrid. My Toyota dealer already gave me an out the door price of $42.5k and I've not yet gotten a quote from my local Lexus dealer nor have I driven a fully loaded 300h Ultra Lux to compare it. I was very impressed with the new Avalon. The ES I priced out was $57k with all the goodies,

Has anyone been able to compare insurance costs for both models?

I'm sorry to derail this thread, so maybe I'll search for an existing one or start a new one, but seeing that $55k+ figure appear for the ES, I went over to AutoTrader and saw a pile of low mile fairly new LS460 L's that could be had for the price of a 2019 ES Ultra Lux..... decisions, decisions......

I don't know about Canada, but in the US the price is usually higher, initially. This is due to there not being published crash test data available. That said, how much is insurance in Canada? I pay slightly more than $500/yr on my 2013. That drop equates to a little more than $150 US drop, which is significant.

The service alone makes all the difference. Cannot trust local Toyota dealer as wife is finding out. More to the comparison than just the cars.

Difference is not $10K, closer to $3K. An Ultra Luxury ES300h is not $57K it is $52K.

I feel like the Lexus brand does a lot nowadays.

The Avalon is $43,870 for a loaded Limited model. It's $50,720 for an ES Luxury with the same options, not sure if that includes the delivery free. It is definitely not a $3k difference for comparably equipped vehicles.

Are the real world transaction prices (% discounts) same on both?

$500 per year? That is very good. My parents insurance is about $1600 for both 4Runner and Avalon.

This is what I am interested in. It is probably very location specific, but I would think it's very possible to get a better deal on an Avalon. I believe it is a higher volume car, usually equates to a little more savings.

We bought the 2019 Avalon Limited last month and I'm here to give you guys another perspective. We are Lexus brand owners having owned a 2004 Lexus LS430 (gone now) and a 2008 GS350 for the past six years (and still have it). When we were shopping for another Lexus, our options were limited. The GS350 was not a consideration because we already had one and didn't want another, even though the interior is a definite upgrade over what we have in our 2008. The LS500 was simply too expensive, although I would like to have had one and the current model 2018 ES350 was being offered with significant discounts. So, at this point our only options were the 2018 ES350 and the new Avalon. I expected the wife to go with the ES350, but when we compared it to the new Avalon, the Avalon won out. OTD on the 2018 ES350 was $43K and we took the 2019 Avalon Limited home for $40K.

Granted, this was not a fair comparison as we were comparing between last year's ES350 with the new generation Avalon, but as always, money is a deciding factor in any vehicle purchase - at least to us. We figure we saved a significant amount of money going with the Avalon over the ES350. Now, there is a cost associated with that decision. The Avalon doesn't have a rear window windscreen nor automatic windshield wipers, but these are small disadvantages. The drivetrain of the Avalon is the same as the new ES350, so the primary difference is going to be interior and exterior looks and maybe some goodies the Lexus has that the Avalon doesn't. for $40K the Avalon has a heated steering wheel and rear heated seats, plus a bunch of new technology that we still aren't used to yet.

We love our GS350 and at 85K miles it has alot of life left in it and will be in our family for many years to come. The GS350 is a wonderful car and certainly not in the same league as the Avalon, but the Avalon is decidedly much more quiet on the road than the GS350. The Avalon for us is the better value over the ES350 (comparing the last generation)....
