WTF is this Crown like silhouette?

Also, the charging port tells me that the 500e will be a plug in version, not an EV.

Glad I got the 7th generation ES even though it's a hybrid not a V6. That fastback structure does not belong on a luxury vehicle.

I'm quite sure that the new car will be stunning in design and technological features. However for a sedan I like the 2019 design vs. a fastback. Think I'll keep my 2019 Ultra Lux... :agreed:

One report indicates that a feature of the new model will be "further evolution of its hallmark quietness and ride comfort” - taking away some of the excess sportiness in standard models (the F Sport should still be sporty, of course) would be welcome by many ES buyers, including myself. Hopefully that will also extend to cushier seating! What’s a bit odd from their press releases, which are admittedly rather spare, is what will the US market get. They do tweak offerings in different regions, like Europe and Asia, so we end up with different standard and optional equipment. I just hope the US version - assuming we get it - will skew more to comfort and luxury and be a bit more upmarket in feel and content (i.e. looking and feeling a lot less like a nicer Toyota).

Thanks, 703. I look forward to seeing the details next week.

I don't like the little bubble/protrusion on the tail light.

i don't like the fastback shape (for this car)

i don't like the rear quarter window area..we'll see.

i don't like the BZ4X-like front triangles near the fog lights on the front bumper.

wat is this

The odds are very low that I would be interested in this car. I owned a 4ES and passed on the 5ES and the 6ES because I was not impressed with either and was happy with what I was driving.

Nonetheless, I'm very interested to see what comes out next week.

Other than that, you're ready to buy one:)

it's hard to go back to normal cars/legacy tech after.

if a gun were held to my head and i HAD to get a car that takes gas, I suppose the new 5 Series is cool/nice looking. but even that is a dinosaur to me. but i like the shape/profile. it grew on me.

DavidZ Apr 16, 2025 09:42 AM

I don't get the complaint about "fastback.' The 7ES has a very similar shape.

E46CT Apr 16, 2025 10:17 AM

it's where the trunk gets tiny due to the glass going far back. it looks odd.

No. It’s a BEV. Same motors and battery as the RZ500e

E46CT Apr 16, 2025 10:39 AM

Perhaps, but given there'll be a 300h, it's going to share platforms and therefore be compromised as a BEV.

Once you see the engineering compromises (and there are TONS) that are made when you share platforms between EV and gas and as a result, how bad of an EV results from such sharing, you can't unsee it. At that point you get almost none of the benefits of an EV other than to say "my car doesn't use gas" but that's about it.

It will be interesting. And if it is produced largely in China, pricing will be interesing too. Its hard to see in these pics but it reminds me of a Camry.
