Question ES250 - Engine Air Filter & Cabin Air Filter

Hi all,
I did re-search about this and could not find the answer ( i truly apologize if i missed it and this information actually exists).

After checking up Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter appears that both are ready for replacement.

Engine Air Filter, currently installed is Toyota DENSO 17801-F0050 and for Cabin Air Filter i honestly could not tell as i was not able to see the part # on it.
I suspect that it is as well Toyota filter (but unknown part # to me) as previous owner did service the vehicle @ Lexus dealership.

Question, should i stick strictly to Toyota\Lexus brand filters or something else is recommended / good to go with?

After some re-search i see K&N and FRAM as solid option (known brands to me).
Amazon Amazon

Or FRAM:

CABIN Filter (FRAM):

Please advise

I have been rockauto for years, but ever since alot of aftermarket companies are being consolidated by mergers and acquisitions the quality has taken a noticeable dive. Cabin filter is not a critical part, but oil filters and engine air filters do not use.

Its safer to run toyota branded filters these days. If you buy in bulk you can get it cheapest when online toyota dealers have a sale. If you want to purchase in less quantities alot of lexus dealers like Bell or Prestige are better.

Thank you very much for your time and information, truly appreciate this.

As i am located in Canada, i find us very limited with options/deals/pricing compared to you guys in US.

As for Engine filter i will definitely then stick to Lexus/Toyota parts.

I need to find the part # for cabin filter as well ( Lexus/Toyota).

How often would you recommend changing Engine air filter/Cabin air filter?

I will check them on each engine oil change ( 8000 km ).

Thank you

Just buy them at the dealership. You don’t need the part numbers, they’ll know them.

Unless you live in area where you see significant fine dust or other substances continuously leave them both alone for 20k miles or so. Air filters work poorly when new but once they start loading up on contaminants they work the best and dont need the seal to be broken by one religiously checking it.

Check it once, and leave it alone until next replacement.

Oil filter replace it every time you do an oil change which is upto you. I do 5k miles or 6 months. Some do longer based on their driving style.

I change the engine air filter every 25k miles and it barely looks dirty at that point. I didn't realize how clean NJ air is 🫣

Some of us in here have purchased parts online from the Lexus dealership in Scottsdale, AZ. In fact, I ordered a cabin ai filter from them last summer. Shipping was quick (not sure about Canada but should probably wok unless there are customs issues, perhaps?) and their site is pretty easy to identify what you need. Worth a look anyway.

Avoid the Denso first time fit.
The cabin filters are ok since its not critical.

The oil filter and air filter is not the same quality though (diff factories, lower quality machine work and parts such as the adbv, and air filter had slight issues sealing).

Interesting point about Denso from the Car Care Nut I saw the other day. He was generally positive about Denso but pointed out that while they do make “genuine Toyota parts” that doesn’t mean their own equivalent items are of the same quality. Toyota requires certain standards on their parts but when Denso makes their own versions of non-OEM parts for sale they do not need to adhere to that same Toyota quality requirements. It varies from item to item, but being a Toyota supplier will not guarantee exactly the same quality in every case.

I contacted 2 local Lexus dealerships (even Toyota who is actually more expensive then Lexus for parts for whatever reason )

17801-F0050 Engine Filter - $39.50
87139-0E040 Cabin Filter - $61.50 ( we have an alternative part number that's still the OE charcoal filter $43.75 )
+ 13% tax.

Thanks all for help / suggestions / information.

when i inspected the denso parts i bought, they looked fantastic. if significant cost savings over OE, then i would call it worth it. a filter really isn't that complicated of a part, i.e., you're fine using fram

Another question if you guys don't mind please, after reading online, appears that some air filters need to be "oiled" , what about for filters we are discussing here, do they need to be oiled?
If so, what would be the proper way for doing it?

As always, thanks for all help / information.

I use OEM air filter, I replace it everyt 20000 miles even though the manufacturer recommends changing it every 30000 miles.
For the AC, I use aftermarket carbon filter (Bosch, Blueprint) and I replace it on every oil change service, which means every 5000 miles.

Using oiled filters on these cars is a very stupid idea.
