The rock or road debris damage they say caused the sensor failure… smaller than the top of my pen! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...ebb15c744.jpeg These are the lights on the dash that are flashing, the yellow triangle on the left and the two yellow lights all the way on the right https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...42d1a458a.jpeg Error message |
Has anyone had this issue?
I brought my vehicle into New Country Lexus in Latham, NY. It’s a 2023 Lexus ES350 with 20k mi. I’ve had it for a year. Attached you will see the error lights that started flashing on my dashboard. They diagnosed damaged front fender sensor as the issue which is a $2000+ repair not covered by warranty because the
”damage” was likely caused by a rock or stone. See attached pic… the “damage” is smaller than a pen point! Lexus corporate came back and offered $1000 as a “courtesy”! Am I over reacting or is this as ridiculous as I feel it is?!?! It’s like they are admitting that their sensors cannot handle the slightest bit of normal road debris… yet their customer should be responsible… |
I think this is the part: https://parts.lexus.com/p/Lexus__ES-...4106070B3.html
It's a $270 part and then they're basically charging you $1700 for labor, that's insane. I haven't popped off the front bumper of my ES yet, but I would imagine it'd be pretty easy to replace. I don't think they're in the wrong in not covering it under warranty as it could be put under "wear and tear". That price is outrageous though. If it comes down to it, buy the part and have an independent mechanic install it. |
I've popped off my front bumper. If you know what you're doing it's not tough at all. I didn't specifically replace this part, though I replaced just about everything else on the bumper, and it was fairly straight forward (as in, I'd 100% attempt to DIY the fix before paying north of $300, let alone $1700!).
Also you can get the part for <$200 oem on bell lexus site. |
What Jersey said. If you don't want to, just bring the part to an independent shop and that'll be like 1-2 hours of labor?

that's crazy. a tiny itty bitty pebble chip can cause that system to fail? makes me grateful for vision based park assist.
even if you replace the part, wouldn't you need a dealer to professionally reprogram the system? calibration? |

When my bumper was replaced under insurance there was a $700 professional recalibration as Lexus says to do if sensor or bumper taken off and put back on.
Bumper, 1 sensor, 1 headlight($3500), 10 day rental car was $10000. |
