Aftermarket Battery
I've had enough with the OE battery in my 2022 ES 350 that keeps dying on me. What are some of the best aftermarket brands for batteries that we can fit?
Does DCM always use our battery and slowly drain it and is it worth disabling? Has anyone upgraded to Optima? Looking for as many options and recommendations as possible. |
Did you visit the dealer? They will test it and replace it

I assume with a 2002 in the USA, you are still under warranty. I'd bring it into the dealer as suggested by ESh. You may have a charging problem that a new battery won't correct.

First, a trip to the dealer for a free battery. Otherwise in previous posts most members go to Costco for an Interstate. :wiggle:

My battery is going on five years old - never had an issue but I'm about to replace it just cause it's about time.

Well, here’s the thing. I run a dash cam and often use parking mode, it has drain protection. I should have another dedicated battery for it, but I’d rather not go that route. OE battery is just not up to task, hence I’m looking for a more robust deep cycle aftermarket. A dealer installed new battery will probably be another quick let down.

Ah that explains it. Cameras do cost some energy - trust me i know! My Tesla is running total of 9 (nine) cameras 24/7 full recording. It does cost an extra 1% per day, but no biggy since i am charging. I do have the option if disabling it at certain GPS locations if i want.

Do you run a dash cam setup on top of the sentry mode? I would think unnecessary. Man, those tesla cams are awesome even though they still have some blindspots.

While I don't own a 7ES, this is a strange issue. I have a VIOFO A129 Plus Duo hard-wired in my 6ES and I don't have any issues with the battery draining. The hardwire kit I used also has a voltage cut-off you can set (11.8V - 12.4V) where it will automatically shut off if it detects the car battery voltage as too low. I do drive it every day though, so if you had it hardwired and were leaving it off for longer than a week, I could see that being an issue. I do have an Interstate Battery from Costco though, not the OEM one. Is your hardwire kit a 3 wire? It should auto shut off if it detects the voltage being too low from the car battery preventing this from happening. |

This is really interesting. I didn't know you could do that with another battery. Are you saying you'd have a second battery connected to the alternator that would only power the dashcam in parking mode? Or just another battery that you'd charge independently of the car altogether.
I think OP is talking about this, https://www.blackboxmycar.com/collections/battery-packs. It's like a hardwired pack that you wire to the camera instead of having it go directly into a fuse/always on power source. They usually charge while you drive and then it powers your dashcam while you are parked and the vehicle is off. Some people do this over hard-wiring their dashcam to an always on power source. |

No supplement dash cams. Tesla is in the process of rolling out OTA updates to have full access to all 9 cameras where was previously 3 of the 9 cameras were restricted. So there really shouldn't be any blind spots now for Sentry purposes. But even before, you had front, left, right, and rear. So unless you mean the sky, not sure what Sentry blind spots you mean?
