Apps on Car Screen
 

I have maybe 40 apps on the screen of my cell phone but Apple Car Play will only display and allow access to maybe half that many on the car’s screen. Why is this? For example, I’d like my Fox Weather App to be included. Why would an app like that be a problem?
Also, is there any way I can make a photo in my phone picture library to be car screen background behind the apps there?

Not all apps are carplay compatible. It’s up to the apps creators to make it carplay app compatible and compliant.

For the background, you can only use the ones that are provided.

On your iPhone go to Settings > General > CarPlay and select your car and then select Customize. You can then see all of the apps available, add and delete those that you want and then finally you can put them in the order you want. Those at the top will appear on your first screen, etc. I only get 18 apps total that are available to add to CarPlay and I've only selected 12 to show on my screen. I could care less about Panera Bread or Zoom on my cars screen.

The next version of iOS will have some new CarPlay features as announced earlier this week. CarPlay and its iPhone-based software platform will receive a few new features with iOS 17, including SharePlay support in the Music app and real-time electric vehicle charging station availability. SharePlay support in the Music app allows all passengers in a car to control what music is playing from their own devices, even if they do not have an Apple Music subscription. The primary user can initiate a SharePlay session from CarPlay. Apple Maps now provides electric vehicle drivers with real-time charging availability information for their preferred charging network, and this feature extends to the Maps app on CarPlay, making it easy to find an available charging location while driving. CarPlay also includes a new interface for replying to messages. The new CarPlay features are automatically available after updating an iPhone to iOS 17. The software update will be released to the public later this year for the iPhone XS and newer, and it is currently available in beta for developers.

I figured out that you can reorder the apps by pressing your finger on the 3 bars at the right and dragging them up or down. But how do you add or delete them?
