Bodyside Moldings

This is my 3rd Lexus and I’m thinking about adding Bodyside Molding to Protect my doors. My 1st RX350 had them and my 2nd did not have them.I’m afraid that protecting my door will take away from the design of the body lines. Has anyone added molding to your ES? If you have any pictures please Post them.

They work fine for me and make my car look even nicer. Thrown in at delivery by dealership as an incentive to close on new 2021 two years ago. Get ‘em. You’ll be less worried about door dings.

Mine were a port installed item.

I would not have added them. There are a lot of body lines.

I guess if by chance another cars doors match up where those are it might help.

Look Very Nice.

I think I will add them to my ES. Will post a photo after I have them installed.

If the car isn’t too old you tan take them off then buff and wax the paint in that area. Gentle heat gun with dental floss does the trick. Can always put them back on if you hate it, personally I’m not a fan.

Yes, I see what you mean. Could that be because of the Brightness of the color white? I have a Cloudburst Grey paint.

RKF350 May 29, 2023 07:44 PM

Some of it is the shadow in this picture but I do believe on a darker color it may not stand out as much and looking at it straight on.

My prior 2018 ES was dinged by a Honda Pilot rear door. The wind blew it as a kid was getting out and the ding was next to the rear door handle. PDR got it out and the paint cleaned up.

On my Atomic Silver above, the strips seem less apparent and less substantial. Could be the white emphasizes them while dark colors down play them. They should do well on your grey paint.

I think the body side moldings look ugly..... BUT..... after a big road trip to Vegas I noticed two door dings on the driver side of my car. They are so high up that it wouldn't have mattered anyway, most other vehicles you park by are Stupid-Useless-Vehicles so they sit much higher and ding higher than that.

Don't waste your money if you park beside SUVs & trucks, cars only LOL

I think the moldings disrupt the flow of the car and look good only on a few cars. As was mentioned, it won’t protect you from vehicles the sit high off the ground. I always park my car away from everyone else. I’ve had it for a little over a year and I don’t have one single door ding. My two previous cars were brand new. One I had for 4 years and another for 2. Both cars had zero door dings because I parked away from everyone else.

Just my opinion - they look horrible but to each his own.

Sometimes it's not easy to avoid parking next to another vehicle. Our Atomic Silver ES was delivered with them and they look exactly like Shaboom's. They look fine to me and sort of "lengthens" the look of the car. I also agree that the shadows on the white car made the moldings more apparent. Parked elsewhere they would look better. Without the moldings these doors are just inviting a dent. I also think that since most ES's don't have the molding that adding them individualizes the car.

BSM are indeed a judgement call. Though they reduce the chance of door damage, it is certainly not perfect. The only way to prevent door dings, scrapes, and other damage is to do what
Jack 1986 does; Park away from the other cars. Even then though you'll find some moron parked right next to your car. On my 2013 I installed them myself and they were perfect. On the Atomic Silver I let the dealer do it for $100.00... Obviously I like the look...

I had BSM on vehicles but invariably the other vehicle door did not match up to the BSM. To me they are an option to dress up the car, but don't count on them for full protection.
One functional item I do get is the door edge film. Cheap protection for our door edges, and barely noticeable.
