Default Fuel Pump Recall

Toyota has recalled nearly 700,000 vehicles over fuel pump problems that the company is still working to fix.

The roughly 696,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the US have fuel pumps that could stop operating, the automaker said. That could cause the cars to stall and they may not be able to be restarted, according to the company.

“If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash,” Toyota said in a statement Monday.

Toyota said it is still developing a remedy for the issue and plans to notify affected vehicle owners by mid-March. Owners can get repairs for free once a solution is found, according to the company.

The recall covers certain 2018 and 2019 Lexus models including the LS 500, LC 500, RC 350, RC 300, GS 350, IS 300, ES 350, LX 570, GX 460 and RX 350. Certain Lexus NX 300, RX 350L, and GS 300 models from 2019 are also affected, Toyota said.

This also showed up on my owner's page.

Title:
Safety Recall 20TA02 (Interim Notice 20TB02), Multiple Model and Model Years, Vehicle May Stall During Driving at High Speed

Description:
The subject vehicles are equipped with a low-pressure fuel pump which may stop operating. If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and the engine may run rough. This may result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy:
Toyota is currently investigating this issue and will be developing a remedy. When the remedy is available, it will be free of charge to vehicle owners.

Status:
Remedy Not Available

Recall Date:
01-13-2020

Dealer Reference ID:
20TB02

Wow - I wonder how that can be - don't we all have the same fuel pumps?

Delivered Oct 28, 2018 - among the first built in the US, and it's affected.

I get the point about why there would be different fuel pumps among the same model, unless they use a variety of suppliers.

edited after seeing video below ▼ which claims Toyota uses almost all from Nippon Denso.

The end of Toyota reliability
Nothing comes up under my VIN either, but it does if I search by my license plate number.

And no, this is not the end.

Same with mine. I put the VIN in and nothing came up. Yippie! Then I put the license in and it did come up. Dang! Does anybody know someone that has had this fuel pump failure? I am wondering how frequently this failure happens. Since Toyota does not even have a solution yet, this could take several months to resolve.
