Drove from Las Vegas to Los Angeles one July afternoon and so was facing into the sun most of the time. I have tint on all windows except front windshield so I was able to compare how much heat the tint blocks out. It was a significant amount just judging from how hot my arm felt when it was under tinted glass or not.

Now I am thinking of having the front tinted. I will go with the lightest tint same as my front windows. I was worried that the tint would cut visibility too much but having experienced my front window tint has changed my mind.

Has anyone with HUD done the same? Does it affect the reflected display on the glass ?

I’m also thinking of temporarily covering the HUD with plastic as it would suck if any water from tint application gets in there. Or am I being paranoid?

By the way, this has been our longest drive since we bought the car. This is very comfortable and is every bit of the mile muncher I was hoping for.

Check very carefully if your state allows tinting of the front windscreen. Many states forbid aftermarket tinting it due to reduced visibility. Some states even forbid tinting of the driver's window for security and Police Officer's safety...

He lives in Cali so yes it's illegal to tint the front windshield and front windows but that doesn't stop most people. If you receive a ticket for the infraction you only have to pay a small fine. I haven't received a ticket in years but when I was a teen I was driving a red third-gen Camaro with 5% tint and no front plate. I was getting a ticket every other month and it happened so often that the officers at my local police station would just sign the ticket without having to look at the car since they knew I would be back soon. Back then the fee was only about $30 and an officer had to inspect the vehicle to ensure the infraction was corrected. Now the fee is just over $100 and I believe you can just pay it online without having the vehicle inspected. Also, infractions don't generate a point on your license like a violation would which means you can get as many as you can afford.

Nobody answered the OP question on the tint and HUD - I doubt a light tint would interfere but not certain. I have HUD and never use it.

I have the 3m Crystalline, on front windshield ( basicly looks clear, you cant tell) it blocks not only UV but IR . I cant remember if i t was CR90 or cr70. It doesn't affect my HUD at all. Polarized sunglasses are its worst enemy. But actually my regular glasses are the transition type, and the tint actually keeps them from getting very dark, but i dont seem to strain my eyes , as a side note...
