I have been disappointed by the sizing of the trunk cargo net supplied with the car. In my previous 2007 Camry, the net went the entire width of the opening, thus providing a large enveloping space for groceries, backpack, or other stuff. The ES cargo net, is not as large (about 20" smaller) as the Camry's It appears that in an effort to allow it to be zipped back up into its encasement they decided to make it into a perfect rectangle and it's not the width of the trunk opening. Unfortunately the Camry's connecting portion at the top is not a hook like that needed for the ES, so using the Camry's net would not work. (Yes, I kept it before selling it).
But there is good news! I was at the dealer yesterday, and happened to see a picture of an RX with a cargo net, which was clearly much bigger. I asked the Parts Dept if I could get one and try that in my ES. Yes, it does fit and it does extend the whole width of the trunk opening. The bottom needs a little adjusting to clip into the ES, but doing so did not diminish the space provided by the larger net. It's essentially is like an upside-down isosceles trapazoid (see pic). Yes, it still has that ridiculous zippered encasement. It cost $60. I might have been able to save some money by finding a 3rd party one online. But I got a Lexus product that I know works.
This is an example of a completely non-tech, non-mechanical problem. Similar to the center console tray someone else wrote about. Hope this helps if someone else is disappointed by the included cargo net.
