Default Radio sound shuts off mysteriously

I have a 2014 ESh and now I am experiencing the first problem with this car. Every now and then when I am driving the radio sound mysteriously shuts off. The volume control does not work. If I turn it off and then on again, it does not help. I know it is the audio that goes off because I usually have a USB drive with music files plugged in and that does not work either through 'multimedia'. If I stop the car and shut off the ignition to run an errand for example then the audio comes back again on starting up the car.

Anybody have a similar experience?

Does it shut down only on USB mode? Might be the file type - i know there's a couple flies on mine that cause the system to hang, and reboot itself.

BUT, i also have noticed just listening to the radio, that the system will randomly reboot itself twice every so often - probably 3-4x in the last nine months.

During the first couple of months after I bought my 2017 ES, the entire infotainment system rebooted itself 2 or 3 times. It has not done so at all in the 14 or 15 months since then.

You can, however, manually reboot the system. I've read posts from people who have reported that doing so has solved problems with the system. I haven't tried doing it myself, but I believe that the way to manually reboot the system is to hold down the volume down button on the steering wheel for about 20 seconds (until the system starts to reboot). But I've read others saying that the button that needs to be held down for 20 seconds is the mute button on the steering wheel. Again, since I haven't tried it myself, I'm not sure which button it is.

I never had this problem on my 2013 ES. It's an interesting problem.

Hopefully you can find a solution.

Is there a length of time before it shuts off by itself? For example, are you listening to the radio for 30 mins before it does it? Or can it shut off after 5 - 10 mins?

Thanks for getting back. No, it has shut down when I am listening to NPR on FM. Perhaps it does not like NPR!
No correlation with time on either so far because it has only happened a couple of time. I was rather shocked because this has been the first problem with the car. Thanks for the tip on rebooting the radio.

Will let you know if this continues.

If wrong file is there it should say wrong file and should not hang. If that is the case poor software design with the system. OP's problem maybe over heating problem.
If Amplifier chip is on the verge of failing that's what happens. All German cars in the famiy just say wrong file. If I bypass it all is fine instead of hanging. Also the system reads foreign language. My wife often listens to Korean popular songs from CD or USB stick. It displays titles, singer's name and picture, all in Korean language.
