Default Weird sound coming from ES 350 2016

Hello Lexonians,

The car suddenly starting making this very high pitched squeeling, like metal on metal sounds sporadically, only when in motion. It's an ES 350 2016 with 20K miles on it.

It's very weird, sounds like two metallic robot rabbits going at it.

Has anyone experienced this? No problems at all up til now, but I'm actually afraid to drive it til dealer looks at it.

John L..

Usually when you get a high pitched squealing sound it's a slipping belt. Sometimes the A/C compressor can also make this noise when the bearings go. Maybe even the water pump. I don't think your using the A/C if you live in Pennsylvania...

What do you see or hear when you open the hood?

I haven't yet opened the hood. But it only occurs when the wheels are going. When idle, it sounds just like normal.

I did shut off the 'Auto' and fan to see if it was that, and the sound continued.

Probably none of the above then. I'm thinking a wheel bearing...

Yeah at only 20K miles, it's a little early for a brake pad.

I'm going in to the dealer Monday. The sound is pretty sporadic, so I'm hoping the car makes the sound at the exact moment the mechanic drives it.

It seems like when you go faster you're more likely to hear it. It's the oddest sound I've ever heard. And it's very random, not regular at all.

If you have a smartphone, see if you can record it.

Have the Brakes checked. Only while moving? Could be something caught up in between the pads a calipers also.

That was my first thought, especially when I read that it is only happening when the car is moving.

Have you tried backing up since you heard it? I once had a pebble caught against the rotor and it made a wretched screeching sound. When I backed the car up a few inches it dropped out and then all was well again. I would expect the sound to be constant however, but I suppose it might depend on the shape of the object.

At 20,000 miles? Seems unlikely

Thanks. It's in the Lexus service place now. Sticker shock - $190 just for the 20k maintenance. Next time I'll just get a standard oil change at a local garage.

That price is unbelievable.

Where do you guys take your cars? After a time, can I just avoid the dealer and take it to Joe's down the street?

I'll need a second job just to pay the maintenance bills. ;-0

I take mine to my Lexus Dealer, just trying to keep the money I put into the cars, which I hope to keep for a very long time. Although others will disagree, it gives me the peace of nine I need. That is priceless to me. By they way, the 20,000 mile service on my 2013 ES300h was $118. USD including tax.
