Smile Es 350 Oil Change/Filter

Hello, MY first Post on the club Lexus. First time Lexus owner. I bought a used 2015 ES 350 from a Lexus dealership. I'm running in to some issues with the car which I guess ill go over and post on some other threads. This one I will be about the oil change... so I use mobile 1 0w 20 synthetic and those usually last around 10 k between oil changes, and I go to walmart and buy the fram syntheric oil filter xg9972 which last to 20 k, I don't wait till 20 k to do oil changes. usually do them about 7.5 k miles between oil changes.... but I like to stick to oem on all my cars as much as I can and I noticed the Toyota oil filters only last about 5 k miles...should I continue buying the fram XG9972 ??? so I was wondering what does everyone use as an oil filter on there es ?? I usually get an oil change with the oil I mentioned about every 7500 miles to be on the safe side.

Welcome to CL and good luck with your new Lexus. I've been doing my own oil changes since I was 18 and on my 2013 Lexus since 2012. I also use the Fram 9972 top of the line XG filter along with either Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline, or Mobil one. All full synthetic, all 0W20. I do it once a year - every 12 months - even though I've never hit 5k in a year. I'd have no issue going to 10k. I would say continue doing exactly what you're doing and you'll have many trouble free miles.

thanks for the reply.. yea I will continue just using Fram. your lucky you don't have to drive much.. I drive about hundred miles a day so I do mine about 3 to 4 times a year. Tire rotations every 5k miles.

What makes you think the Toyota oil filters only last 5k miles? I and many others run the OEM Toyota/Lexus filters to 10k.with no issues.

^^ Agree. I would be concerned running 20k with the Fram!

0w20 oil will do 10,000 mile intervals with ease and so will a genuine Toyota oil filter. Since you drive so much just do a 10,000 mile OCI and call it a day. Your engine will outlast the rest of the car doing this OCI.

Me too, but I tend to be overly conservative, so I do a oil/filter change every 7500mi and I only use Mobil 1. However, we don't put lots of miles on the car so that works out to a about every 14 months.

Yeah, I know I'm overkill... I use mobil 1 synthetic and change my oil and filter every 5K. Same thing in my 4 Runner. Some of us grew up back in the day when you just had conventional oil and changed it every 3 thousand miles. So going from 3 to 5 thousand miles between oil changes was hard at first... old habits can be hard to break.

For me 1 year or 10000 miles whichever comes first. Always using a premium synthetic with filter change.
