As far as the trim around the shifter. I believe that, for the base and premiere package ES, what you describe as "caviar" color is just an updated version of the piano black that was previously on the ES. What Lexus appears to have done now is to have put metallic flakes in the otherwise black finish. With those metallic flakes, the finish of that surface should show fine scratches less readily than with solid black that was used previously.
As far as the information display is concerned, if you go through the information display settings, you will be able to set the screen with the information you want as your home screen, and that is the screen that will appear whenever the car starts. Use the settings to show the information that you want to be on the home screen. Then, press and hold the button on the right side of the steering wheel that is in the upper right hand corner of the steering wheel buttons (it looks like the pages of book). Doing that will set the information that is currently displayed as the home screen. It is explained on page 80 of the 2017 ES manual. The page number for the 2018 ES probably won't be the same, but my guess is that it will be close.

Between your post, and the reference to the section in the owners manual, I was able to figure it out.
One more thing I saw while reading the manual. It appears the amount of time the interior lights stay on, can be customized. The default is 15 seconds, but it can be changed to 7.5 or 30.
I'm referring to Section 9.2: Customization. On about page 542.
In the "Illumination" table, there's a row that says "Time elapsed before interior lights turn off".
Any idea how to set this?

Is there a way to pull the rear view mirror back, away from the windshield, more, on the 2018 ES 350?
It's difficult to hang a parking pass behind it, compared to the 2013 ES 350. The 2013 had a portion behind the rear view mirror, where it was narrower, and thus easier to hang the parking pass.

I've had the 2018 ES for a few months.
I just wanted to point out some differences, between the 2013 ES and the 2018 ES.
* My sticker for the 2013 ES said the name of the trim within one of the bullet points. The sticker for the 2018 ES doesn't say the trim name anywhere. It's a little disappointing not to see it written anywhere, just for historical purposes. Or if I ever forgot the official trim name. I know the official trim name for the 2018 because one of the dealers had emailed me the official order confirmation from Lexus for the custom order, once it had a temporary VIN. That paper had it.
* The 2013 used to show a small picture of a car when starting up, on the driver's console. The 2018 doesn't do that.

* There was a trim down the middle of the gear shifter in the 2013. There isn't a trim there anymore.
* The 2018 gear shifter has leather on the bottom half. The 2013 didn't have leather.
* There wasn't any trim around the window and door lock/unlock buttons in the 2013. There is in the 2018.
* The words "ECO" were in blue in 2013. On the 2018, it's in green.
* I only got 2% of CDs to display the artist and song information in my 2013 ES. It was frustrating how it didn't display that for most of the CDs.
On the 2018 ES, it displays the info on every one I've tried. Also, there is a picture of the CD on the right hand side. Or, if listening to a radio station, there will be a picture there too, either corresponding to the song, or an image from the radio station.
* There are a lot more settings and menus on the driver side console, in the 2018 ES. I think I've liked all of the changes so far.

My previous car is a 2013 ES 350.
I'm considering between the Infiniti Q50 and the Lexus ES 350.
I went to the Infiniti dealer drove both the Q50 RWD 3.0 Luxe, and the Q50 RWD 3.0 Sport.
I asked about all wheel drive, but the dealer said they didn't have many in stock.
The differences with what they had in stock came down to surround sound for the Luxe, vs. the trim, performance tires, and better handling for the Sport. With only a $100 difference between them, I preferred the Sport, for the handling. But would have been happy with either one.
Neither had memory seats.
When the dealer showed the offer, he had an optional package for warranty for the electronics included. Since I only drive 5,000 miles a year, I asked for a better time based offer.
The best he could do was a 7 year, 80K warranty on the electronics, for $3500.
I then went home and looked at my sales sheet for the 2013 ES 350. I didn't get any kind of extended warranty on the electronics back then.
Should I have gotten it back in 2013? Do I need it?
I'm going to look at the 2018 ES 350 next. I'm happy to see that the active safety features which were only available on the super premium package for $7000 more back in 2013, are now included standard. Features such as lane departure with steering assist, and active collision prevention.

As to Extended warranties, as the car prices they are negotiable.
The last Lexus extended warranty I got was online, from a guy named Jerry in the midwest. It was Lexus platinum and much cheaper than my local dealer (after discount)
For Our '16ES my local dealer sold us a CareGuard 10yr/120K warranty for an attractively low price, including the wheel & tire and key package, I don't recall the price (may have been around $2K) but was way below the Lexus price.
Last June I bought a '10 Lincoln MKX (w/ 136K on it) and got a CareGuard warranty (~$2300) they have been great to deal with. In reality, I should have gotten the top warranty rather than the next one down. So far they have covered the brake booster, driver's window motor, rear hub, roughly $2,000 in repairs. They have also covered the cost of rentals while the car was in the shop. It has paid for itself!
I'm glad I asked, I didn't know that they wrote extended warranties on cars with that kind of mileage.
